Mirena

I am still trying to talk myself out of it. I have heard horror stories as well. I gave birth to two children all natural and I am worried about an IUD, WTH is wrong with me. I want to cancel the appt. so badly but I can't take the pills or the ring. I just want to be natural but DH says we will have our own tribe if I don't do something. LOL

I've had mine since May.  I didn't not have a vaginal delivery so my ob said my cervix was still very tight and closed since I never dilated a spidge.  She tried to insert it in the office the first time and it felt like a very strong cramp....with no such luck.  I had to walk down the hall in the sheet so that it could be placed under ultrasound.  Then again another sharp cramp.  I have had no side effects and my periods are non-existent.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Mirena!! LOL It was uncomfortable to have put in but now it is the best.  I cramped for a couple days after it was in, but it wasnt bad and then I had spotting for almost 5 weeks.  (That stunk) but now I have only had a very light af on July 3 and Oct. 4!! I can deal with that.  No need to worry about pills, rings or patches.   I strongly recommend it.

It hurts like a bugger. And I had cramping for a couple days after. Just a note, keep a close eye on your strings, mine fell out and I unknowingly got pregnant and had a misscarriage with a few complications, and nobody ever thought to check for pregnancy.
Now they say they can't find the IUD, but I have vision of having a baby born with it stuck to their forehead. (okay, not really but you know what I mean)

I was told I never needed to check my strings and that if I were losing the IUD or if it "slipped" the pain would be enough to let me know something was wrong with it....it is AMAZING to me how doctors are SO different!

I think you should probably check your strings about once a month because I had my Mirena removed and it didn't hurt at ALL!!!  And I have a tiny cervix...seriously, the doctor said it is the size of a 10 year old child's, not the size of a mother who has given birth twice and once to a ten pound baby.  So, anyway, there is seriously no way I would have known if the Mirena had slipped out on its own, because I didn't even feel it when the doctor yanked it out.

If you've ever had really bad menstrual cramps, that's what insertion is like, but only for about a minute.  My doctor had a very hard time placing mine (it took about 15 minutes) because I have an unusually small cervix and even with that complication the pain wasn't too much to bear.  It was white knuckle-type pain for a few minutes, but so worth it because my heavy periods were much lighter and I didn't have menstrual cramps every month.
