So I am 15 weeks pregnant today but I have noticed this problem for about 3 weeks now. I get soooooo tired doing anything. I cannot go shopping anymore because it is so crazy. I went into Target a 2 weeks ago and after walking around for 20 minutes with my mom I started to feel really tired and like I needed to sit down, but I did keep going for about another 20 minutes. Today I went grocery shopping and was in the store maybe 30 minutes, and stopped at the deli for cheese. I was only waiting for 10 minutes but I felt sooo tired and like I was going to collapse on the floor. I had to lean on the cart because I was so fatigued. After I got my cheese I had to go to the cafe and sit down for 5 minutes before I could finish up my last 10 minutes of shopping.

Is this normal ladies? Should I be concerned that I am getting wiped out so easily and should I be concerned with the extent of the fatigue? The last time I had blood drawn everything was ok. My iron was a little low (but has been for over 2 years) but my ferritin, stores, and blood cell count are always good. I am going to get my blood work done again in 3 weeks but I worry about this problem. Is this normal for pregnancy or should I start worrying that my vitamin levels could be going wacko?

Thanks in advance!
Simone

I'd ask for a blood draw now. My iron has always been a wee bit low but it wasn't until I was at around the same time frame as you that I started to notice alot ot the same kind of things. I told my doctor and since I'm high risk anyway he immediately ordered bloodwork. Well I had dropped from 10.8 to about 8 in less than 2 months time and this was while I was taking 2 extra iron pills a day outside of my prenatal which is a high iron formula. Well they added one more dose of iron to the mix and I still dropped to 7.5 a month later and ended up having to get a blood transfusion of 3 units to get my levels back to 11. I go next week to see how things are going but I feel much better than before, not tired all the time. It's really important to make sure that your iron levels are good now because after the 18th or 19th week the baby is actually drawing more from your red blood cells than before. In the beginning they motly use our plasma but by week 20 it is full swing of taking our RBCs.

I wouldn't wait three weeks to get my iron checked.  If it's been over two years since you've had a complete blood workup then you need to get everything checked it.  It's very important to stay on top of these things even more so now that you are expecting.  Your levels can change very quickly during pregnancy.  My ferritin was 79 on June 30. 49 in early September, and 37 last week.

Some exhaustion is normal during pregnancy but it's better to know what's going on by checking your levels.

Thank you for your response. I am sorry I wasn't clear. I had a complete workup 2 months ago and everything was good. My iron has been a problem to me for over 2 years though (we have been trying to correct it but nothing takes). They are not too worried though because just my iron is low. My ferritin is good, my stores percentage is good, and my red blood cell count is good. My iron has just always been low.

just to ease your mind, go get your levels checked.

I personally think that its just the pregnancy, i was waiting like a kid on christmas morning for my fatigue to end once my 2nd trimester began, and it hasnt. I am so tired that I day dream about being asleep at work and when i am at the gym!! I was worried sick, and went to get my levels checked which were fine.

I am also anemic but I make sure I eat food rich in iron, and keep my protein intake up to par as well, and drink tha****ER!!

This is just the begining of motherhood, so enjoy it symptoms and all!!

Good Luck

I don't know about everyone else but this was (and is again now in the third trimester) the case with me.  I was drop dead tired, leaving work early and not being able to go shopping.  It is listed in all the pregnancy books and if you were ok 2 months ago I would not panic.  My iron was fine and I was told, you are creating a human being inside you, it's gonna tire you out.  Good luck and get lots of rest!

I was really wiped out for the first trimester and could hardly do anything.   I could barely go for 90 minutes doing my grocery shopping once a week, come home and fall on the couch for an hour and veg in front of the tv until I felt better.  You sound pretty normal.   It should pass eventually, but you just have to listen to your body and rest when you feel tired.

It has gotten better but I still have to take breaks when I feel tired or I start to feel really yucky.   I get weekly emails from babycenter.com and it says around the 15th or so week for like a month that the baby goes through a growth spurt.   Which means it can really wipe you out and you probably will be especially hungry- so maybe that's what's going on with you right now.   Those weekly emails I get from babycenter.com are really cool and help me know what's going on with me and the baby- you should sign up for em too!

My doc reccomended I get blood draws every 3 months during my pg, just to make sure they are ok and I don't need to adjust anything.   Make sure you get blood work every few months too.  GL!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!

I think this is totally normal! I have had the same problem my entire pregnancy. I just try to take it slow when out shopping and walking around so I don't get too tired or dizzy. I wouldn't worry about it.

I am so glad to see this! Girl in the beginning (liek the first 10 weeks). I felt like I was in the damn twilight zone. I could do nothing but eat, sleep, work, commute home and repeat the cycle. I had a slight reprieve from this for the pat 3 weeks. Now I am feeling the same exact way. I feel like there is some sort of switch inside of me that automatically cuts off at a certain point.;

Since 2/12/08. I have went from 364 to 210. Thank You RNY!
