Is fertility heredity?

Im not TTC yet... but am hoping to try within a year. I've got baby fever like crazy! I have totally abnormal periods because of my obesity. When I get below 300 pounds they become much more regular.

I am worried though because of my abnormal periods, that TTC will be hard for me. However, my mother and my sister both got pregnant super easy! They both had 2 kids, and got pregnant both times on the very first month of trying! Does anyone know if there is any heredity to fertility? In my case it would be nice!

Just wondering :)

Thanks!
Nikki

I don't know if it is heredity..... I hope not, I don't want my girls to go through this! I have/had PCOS and when I was 365 didn't have a period for 3 years! When I got down to about 275 I started getting them every 28 days and have been normal ever since. I did have IUIs for my first kid, but that is also because my DH has really BAD swimmer problems. We got preggo on the second IUI. Then when Bailey was 6 months old I got preggo on our own (sadly miscarried) then got preggo on our own again when she was 14 months old.

We are currently trying for #3. My suggetions would be to track your cycles for a few months and see what is going on, when you O, etc. If they are abnormal go see and Reproductive Endo - it can't hurt!

Good luck!

Nope, not really.  About the only thing that can affect fertility that can be hereditary is endometriosis.  I am unexplained (regular periods and everything, always have had them), but my mom and sister had no issues getting pregnant.  And my sister did it at 39, and while morbidly obese.  So, nope.

I think heredity has something to do with it.  If you think about it, when you go to your Dr. and you are TTC they will ask, has anyone in your family had a problem getting pregnant ect....

Then, once you do get pregnant, they will ask if anyone in your family has a history of miscarriages ect...

My grandmothers, mother and aunts never had any problems get pregnant.  I did not either.

Good luck!

Nikki,
Some things are, and some are not. This is true for both males and females. Since it takes two, problems on either side or a combination could just not work as quickly or could work perfectly the first try. Unfortunately, It is hard to ever know without testing!! Good luck.

Not to discourage you in any way; however, my sister and my mother both had three children with only one ovary. and never tried...my sister twice while on BC....I however, never got the fertile mertile gene....I am however a preggo, so not impossible....but I would chop it up to ....it's not hereditary.....

Good luck when the TTC time comes! Stacey
