OT Am I the only person who hates halloween?

OKay, I have decided I must be a freak of nature.  I have always hated halloween, even when I was little I remember hating dressing up and just feeling self conscious and like I was a fool.  I must just be wired whacky or sumfin....cuz I would love to just skip this day forever.  When my girls were little...I would let them dress up, but we would stay home and make carameled apples and popcorn balls and cookies and pass out candy...unfortunately...my son is having NONE of that.  He wants to trick or treat...BLAH!!!  I hate getting candy from people I do not know.  I go through it and get rid of the questionable stuff and replace it with stuff that I bought myself...lol  I guess this is one area that I am a bit neurotic about.

Anyway...does anyone else feel this way...or am I the only one?

Thanks for listening!

I never hated Halloween as a kid but as the parent of a kid with a life threatening peanut/tree nut allergy, I can't stand it now.  We made caramel corn and caramel apples today and carved jack o lanterns that will go in the trash tomorrow.  We drive across town to go trick or treating at my moms and she gets to keep 5 pieces of candy from there(that we know is safe).  Everything else goes to the "switch witch" who exchanges all the other candy (from school, the zoo boo thingie, well meaning co workers) with a stuffed animal.  That way we don't have to worry about the candy and my well meaning co-workers will get it all back in the breakroom on Monday.

I try to be cheery for my family, but I really do not care for it. I have fun dressing my kids up but I hate taking them out. This year I am happy because my husband is actually home and can take the kids out. My 9 year old does not care for it. He likes dressing up in star wars stuff but hates all the scary stuff. This year he has the flu so we are both staying home! I am sad he is sick but glad we are are going to keep the lights off and watch movies while the other two are with dad and Grandma.

Despite dressing Nathan up, I am not a huge fan right now....I am actually sitting here in the house not answering the door when it rings (it only rang once....lol)....I may enjoy it more later.....but without Nate here I am not answering the door....you never know who will be there...lol...and with the H1N1 who knows what germies are flying around on the candy getting passed out....so, for now, the dressing up is fun....

I do not do halloween either.  I also hated it as a kid.  We took our kids to a church harvest fest last night and they had tons of fun and got tons of candy.  That was enough for me.  I cant see spending money or time on costumes and such...we dressed them up a couple years ago because someone gave them these adorable costumes and invited them to come over to their house. (How could I say no?)  I am a party pooper I know, but eh, no Halloween here.

LOL Laura! I love the pumpkin carving and roasting of pumpkin seeds, but I dislike the premise of panhandling for treats. Still, I bring the kids trick or treating and then spend days telling them "no more candy" and then arguing my case about why sweets are NOT breakfast worthy. And then each night I fight the temptation of the wafting smell of Almond Joys and PB Cups. You know what? I guess I don't like the holiday after all :D

Hugs,

Jo
