20 week Ultrasound

Well last Friday was my BIG ultrasound.  It took 2 1/2 hours for the three babies.  The estimated weight one every baby was 14 oz.  They were all in the 70th percentile.  It was weird because each baby had such different body types.  Baby A was just long and big.  The girl had really long legs and we were surprised her weight was the same, he went back and remeasured the legs because they seemed unusually long but they were correct measurements.  Baby C, the second boy was on the shorter side but CHUNKY.

So during the genetic counseling session afterwards everything is so normal with all the babies and everything they only recommended EKGs on the babies hearts due to my diabetes.  They said they normally recommend amnios for women my age but there was absolutely nothing on the ultrasound that brought up any questions and said that they made no recommendation one way or the other and I could just make up my own mind.  I said no thanks, do not want any extra risks.

I go for the EKGs on the 13th.  But the babies look perfect like my other kids so I am not worried about anything.  It is a relief to see them doing so well and all really even in their growth so no worries about their receiving what they need and they all measured over 21 weeks so they are really pleased with their growth.

The paranatologist came in for the measurement of my cervix.  It had changed very little, went from 3.19 cm to 3.13 cm and she said that a good 3 cm at 20 weeks with triplets was fantastic and she was really pleased.  They could see contractions during the ultrasound and there is some funneling of the cervix but it does not appear to have changed since going on bedrest.  So we are pleased with the results and my bedrest continues.

The girl is Charlie Peyton.
The chunky boy is Caleb Aaron.
Baby A we are still working on, we are thinking Eli William or Noah William.  William is my hubby's name and he wants to name one of the boys after someone in the family and his father and grandfather's names and middle names are just not anything I like so I told him William.

Thats great news, that they are doing so well and your cervix is where it should be.  Keep resting and baking those babies.  My sister became diabetic when she was pregnant and they did all kinds of extra little things- most of them scared the heck out of her...but she did them for the baby...I remember her having to see a heart specialist during the pregnancy.  I'm not sure of your age, but she was 41.  Turned out her daughter was A++ just like every test showed through the pregnancy.  2 1/2 hours your a trooper, I couldnt sit still that long.

I know the feeling.  I have had gestational diabetes with every one of my four previous children and have run the gamut of tests and insulin injections.  Since the RNY though I am not diabetic when I am not pregnant so oral meds work great and I have great control even with the triplets.  Diabetes is tricky.  I will be 38 in December so over the 35 yo mark making me of advance maternal age, ooohhhh.  I hate that, I already feel old, don't need the extra kick in the gut while I am down LOL.

Glad you appointment went well and babies are looking good!  I am sorry you are on bedrest for so long!  I was put on it 2 weeks ago and I'm going crazy. But I know it's for the best interest of the babies.

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Sandy,

Have you joined the Tacoma Parents of Multiples group?  I started going to that two months ago, they are great, they also have a message board and they have annual sales for their baby stuff.  You can get great deals and when comes time to sell your stuff you get much better than garage sale prices for your items.  It is in February.

Are you delivering at Tacoma General?  Who is your OB?

Talk to you later!
