?? re bruising?

This is probably nothing important...but thought I'd throw it out there for $.02 cents just for the heck of it.

I've noticed in the last few weeks that I'm getting little bruises - maybe the size of a dime - for no known reason.  90% of them have been on my legs - probably 2-3 at a time, every few days, and they heal up and go away w/in a few days and do not hurt.  I haven't banged my legs on anything to cause them.  I've had a few on my left arm on the back between the elbow and wrist...didn't think anything of them...but today I noticed that my right index finger, on the back of it on the part between the knuckle on your hand and the next knuckle up has a brown/black bruise on it that appeared overnight...and I know I haven't banged my finger...I'd definitely have noticed that.  It doesn't hurt either.

Any clues on what could be causing the bruises?  following are the meds/vits I take, just in case someone thinks one of them could be causing it:

Daily:

Bariatric Advantage Iron (x1)
BA multi vits (x2)
BA calcium (x2)
Folic Acid (5,000 mg)
Baby aspirin (x2)
Vit D (5,000 mg)
estrogen (depends on the day of the month as to how much)
thyroid med

Mondays and Fridays I also take zinc (it's low w/o it it...high if I take it daily)
Monday/Wednesday/Friday I also take BA B12 (x1) for the same reason as the zinc...daily it's too high, w/o it it's too low.

It's probably me just thinking it's weird for nothing...but if you have any info....I'm happy to collect the pennies.  Thanks.

My experience is low iron. Maybe you can have that checked?

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Thanks Jo.  I'll see if I can stop in next week at the med unit and ask them to check it.  I'm thinking it's probably been close to a year anyways since my labs were done...so I might as well do them all.

BTW...Your new picture looks great!

I have no idea.  Sorry.

I will say that I have always been an easy bruiser, but since WLS it's been 10 times as easy and random just like you.

I would mention it to your Dr. though.

Thanks Julie...I'll mention it next week...this week's been a ***** and I know I won't have time to go to the med unit tomorrow.  I normally only bruise when I whack myself with something...like the trunk of the car last week that wonked me on the forehead...I looked like a cyclops for a day or two with a big red lump in the middle of my forehead (it was a car from the motorpool at work...the hydrolic things that hold it open don't work and I didn't know...lifted it up, reached in to get something, and got wonked in the head for it...it could only happen to ME : )

Holly,

This happens to me all the time.  I had one on my thumb how you described the other day.  I am anemic and was anemic before I had my RNY.  I get the little bruises just from a finger tip sometimes.  I had a bruise on my breast and it lasted for 2 wks, a few weeks ago.  I have no idea where it came from at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was anemia causing this.

Oh and I wanted to mention that the baby asprin is a blood thinner, which makes it much easier for you to bruise.  Plus, didn't you test positive for some blood clotting issue?  I think my OB/GYN is going to send me to a hematologist if my protein C activity comes back abnormal again.  They ran it with my first round of blood work for this pregnancy as a precaution.  I am on 1 baby asprin a day, too.

Thanks Bridget.  I'll have the dr check my iron...I think I should just about be due for blood work anyways.  You're correct...I am a mutant w/a few blood clotting genetic things...but have never had a clot, thank God.

How are you feeling?

Do you find yourself cold a lot even if it is not necessarily cold, or with blue/purple fingers, nailbeds, etc...?
I had the bruising and this issue and was told it was due to my anemia, which had gotten severe, and complicated by low low levels of Vitamin D.

I am always freezing to death.  My family and I have air conditioner wars here.  I turn them off...they turn them on. No blue fingers though.  I know a year or so ago my iron was going down so I started taking it and it was in the lower side of the normal range...but I don't know what it is now.  I'll try to go check it out next week.  It's just strange because normally if I have a bruise, I know what I whacked it on...but lately, I know I'm not whacking it...especially my finger...and there they are.
