I guess they want him to go to a urologist. Of course, they called him just a little bit before 5, so I only got 1 call in to a urologist office who said 1st appt is Jan 20 !! So I will have to do some calling around tomorrow morning, to find a place who is able to hopefully see him soon.

Thanks for the term, I was able to google and at least have an idea of some possible causes, tests etc....

My tests came out fine, the blood work was thyroid, FSH and estradiol- those were all normal and yesterday I had the HSG test done and my tubes are not blocked... That's the bright side at this point.

My husband had the same thing happen.   First off, he had a child from a previous relationship so we assumed everything was good and never pre-tested him.   However, during "our" first round of IUI when he had to do his thing we got the 0 sperm call.   We were terribly upset.  Turns out that for the year previous when he'd been having some low testosterone #'s his urologist put him on testosterone GEL to increase his #'s.  Good for getting it up, BAD for what comes out.   It acts like birth control and neutralizes the swimmers...shooting blanks syndrome!   He went on to an endocrinologist that found the root of the problem was his pituatary gland was off and ordered HCG shots instead.  The shots (which really aren't bad at all) are the first line of treatment, 3X a week but they kicked in fast.  The second is to go "in" and do a test to see if he has some good guys and then extract them.   He wasn't too excited about a needle in his *&%$.   The shots increased the count from 0 to 34,000 then to 78,000 and the morphology and motility were excellent, especially for a guy of 47.  If the urologist suggests the GEL, run.....to your reproductive endocrinologist; they will know the difference.

Hi Jackie,
Thank you for telling me your story.. I will definitely keep it in mind if I hear anything along the lines of testosterone gel.... So, are you saying that in his case the hcg shots helped his count and he DIDNt have to do the needle and extraction? Or did he have to do both?

I found another clinic with a sooner appointment,, it's still a urology office, and one of the dr's clinical interest is in male infertility. There's more of a description of the dr at the place who had an appt on dec 12- so i'm not cancelling it until he has this appt (Nov 11)...

Hoping this makes sense, it's been a long day lol

Personally, I think you are much wiser to go with the doc with the interest in male infertility, that's the equivalent of an RE for a woman.  No, we did not have to do any extraction.   The shots alone corrected the zero sperm count problem.
