getting sick...

OK so my boss  - who I work in fairly close contact with through out the day is very sick. He doesn't stay home - he is hacking up a lung, runny nose, fever, run down. I am afraid that he has the flu. This morning I woke up feeling a bit more run down then usual, my ears feel clogged and my nose is running. I don't have a thermometer at work but think that my temp might be slightly elevated. Anyone have any tips of things that pregnant women can do to battle off a cold?? I am 10 weeks. I am doing the usual things, extra hand washing, not touching my face, uping my fluid intake, resting as much as I can.

I've heard so much about this stupid flu and it is making me nervous. I can't get my regular flu shot until mid-november and H1N1 is questionable when it will be in and if I will get it.

Also - if I do get sick do I call the PCP or my OB??

Thanks ladies!

Sounds Like you are doing all the right things...your boss on the other hand!!  Some people need to take a dose of common sense.

Ok, now back to you...I would call the OB first and they will probably tell you to call you PCP.  My OB office said they always wanted me to call them even if they referred me to the PCP so they could know what is going on.  I think you can take stuff like airborne, but ask the OB office...I dont know if it really helps but I always felt better being pro-active. OH, and pregnant women have ALOT of extra congestion just from being pregnant, so keep that in mind too.  Blessing to you.  Hope you feel better!

Yes, call the OB first, but they will probably refer you to the PCP.

And what a crotch of a boss to work while that sick.

I was only allowed to take Sudafed when I was sick. And only while at work. Once I got home it was warm liquids and rest... Thats it.

Thanks ladies.

He is a pain - he SHOULD stay home but he NEVER does! I am trying to keep him out of my office - thank God he is out and about today - infecting customers and not me! lol

I'll see how I feel tomorrow and call the OB/PCP if necessary.

I just got over a bad cold and I was advised that all I could take was plain Robitussin, plain Sudafed, and of course Tylenol. I hope you don't get too sick!!

Liz,
I hope you don't catch what your stupid boss has!   I have in the past called both my ob and my PCP.  Friday I found out that Hannah had strep and since my throat was sore too I needed to be tested.  I didn't want to go the PCP and catch something worse so I called my OB.  They were great...they even brought me in the back way since I told them I was afraid Hannah would make another pregnant women sick.   I didn't have strep, but I continued to get worse over the weekend.  This time I called my PCP (I have bronchitis, a sinus infection, and probably something viral .....FUN).  There really isn't much other than antibiotics that either Dr. can give you.  Benadryl, sudafed, and tylenol cold/sinus, and Robitussin plain is what I've been ok'd to take...obviously not at the same time lol.
If you are running a temp you may need to start tamiflu, just in case.
Keep us updated!

Thanks! I'll take my temp when I get home later. I'll also take Benadryl before bed and see if I can knock this crud out before it goes any further!

Aww and my hubby just stopped by my office and dropped me off a dozen roses "just because" that instantly made me feel better!

Hope that you are feeling better! ANd Hannah too!
