PPD and Medical Leave Update
Thank you to everyone who PMed me and posted their support. The past month has been very difficult, and I am so blessed to have found a solution.
As posted earlier last week, I am suffering with PPD (which, by the way, I do not feel was in any way related to having an epidural or induction as mentioned in a previous post. And part of my PPD IS that I had to have an inductin and the fact that Lyd had such a rough birth) and have begun to see a therapist. I saw my OB, who I adore, and he excused me from work for the 100 days at half pay my district allows and suggested some strategies for dealing with the PPD (exercising outside, surrounding myself with supportive people, eating better ... ). I found out that the district will grant up to two years leave, with the first 100 at partial salary, and that will allow me to stay home with Lydia at least until April. It is my hope that we are so good at being poor by then that I can stay home indefinately. :-) So, I have four days left at work, and then it's all about me and baby pirate 24/7. I spoke with her daycare today, and they were very understanding, too.
The only complications I am having is that my principal has an amazing sense of entitlement and she took it upon herself to discuss my leave with fellow teachers, even though she knows NOTHING other than that my doctor excused me from work for medical reasons. That was a little difficult to deal with today as people kept asking me why I was leaving and wanting details - in a school with 50 teachers, that's a lot of badgering. I would have prefered to keep my business to myself. What goes around comes around though, and I am confident that she will dig her own grave with this. She currently has two other cases of sexual harassment against her becuase of her treatment of pregnant women. I also wish the district were a little more supportive of all new mothers so that we don't all have to reach the point of total desperation. PPD is a very real thing for a lot of us, and should be treated with revrence and respect.
Anyway ... there's for sure a light at the end of the tunnel ... I am full of joy at the prospect of getting to stay with Lyd all day ...
Again, thank you all for your support.

What great news that you have found a way to help with the PPD...Nothing is worse then dealing with people that dont understand it. I know I experienced it with my daughter and my healthcare provider strugged it off. Boy-it made me feel like I was alone. I sure hope you can enjoy that time with Lydia and get yourself back.
So happy you have found a good solution. Take it easy and if you can remember to ask for help when needed (I know I need to remind myself this all the time because of being independent). Enjoy your time with baby pirate. And I hope that Principal gets whats coming to her soon.

Yay yay yay! I'm so glad you trusted your instincts and researched your options! I wish I had looked into getting help and staying home after my 1st. I was unhealthy and unhappy a long time and I really feel it affected my ability to bond with my baby.
I'm an expert at living poorly to stay at home, so feel free to commiserate any time!
And karma will visit the principal. Breech of confidentiality tends to **** off the right people and lead to consequences.
Hugs,
