hi all,
ok I am just wondering how much your baby weighed at 2 months old?
Was he/she breastfed, bottle or both?  Do you think one( breast or formula)  tends to weigh more than the other??
Just curious as someone asked me today if I thought Lucas was gaining too much too fast?
He is 10 weeks old and weighs 15lbs and is solely breastfed, he weighed 7lbs 12oz at birth.
So I was just curious about it and thought I could get some good feedback here!
TIA
Beth

Matthew was born at 6 lbs 10 oz and at 2 months he weighed 11 lbs 12 oz.  So he had gained a little over 5 pounds.  He is on formula.  I wouldn't think a baby would weigh more or less regardless of what type of milk they are getting.  Matthew has always been at the 50% for both weight and height.  Sounds like Lucas is growing well!

Hi Beth,

I just looked it up -- Cooper was 14lbs and 23.5 inches.  That put him in the 98th percentile for weight and something like 72nd for height (if I remember those percentiles correctly).

He was mostly formula fed.  I THOUGHT formula fed babies weighed more ---  because bottles make the milk come out faster and the body has a natural way of limiting milk (I was reading about how amazing the human breast is the other day in its ability to nourish a baby!).   Go Lucas!  :-)

The good thing is that Cooper is starting to even out -- his height is catching up with his weight and at 4 months he is 19lbs now (only a 5 lbs gain in 2 months versus a 7lb gain the two months prior).

He's an adorable little boy....  people keep telling me not to worry --- so I am imparting those words to you.

my daughter was 8 lb 12.9 oz at birth and I was breast feeding but she was losing to much weight at first I had nurses coming to my home and they told me to breast feed then give her a bottle so she was fed both ways... at 2 months I believe she was about 13 lbs I don't think your son would be considered over weight. Every baby grows different. My step mother just the other day told my dad that my daughter was getting to fat. she's about 19 mos old now and she's 30 lbs but also very tall for her age. I was like are you kidding me she's not fat. The doctor says she right at normal weight. I know she has a growth spurt coming too. I wouldn't be worried. hope I helped some... take care...

Hey Bethie...

Nathan weighed 9.9 at birth and at 3 months (he was not weighed at 2 months that I remember) he was 15.15. He is about  22 pounds now and is almost 1...I think he evened out.....he has been bottle fed with the exception of the very beginning where it was a combo.....

HTH....xoxo,

Ann

Jiada was breast fed and weight 6lb, 10oz at birth and at 2 months was up to 11lb 14 oz, she is 11 months now and weighs in just under 25 pounds!! She is tall but VERY solid.  My first two kids were very petite. I dont remember 2 month weights on them, but at a year my son was just over 20 pounds at my daughter was not even 17 pounds.  (She was bottle fed because of a cleft pallette.) But she is still very petite.  I think Lucas sounds like he is doing great!!

Hi Beth

I just got out Zander's baby book and looked this up.... He was solely a formula fed baby... He was 5 lbs 13oz and 18 inches long at birth.... At 2 months, he was 9 lbs 10oz and was 21 inches long...

It sounds like Lucas is doing great...  If you're concerned, I would ask his ped about it...

I think they all grow at different rates that is for sure... I wouldn't worry too much... I just had posted an issue regarding Zander's weight yesterday and got some great feedback here... My little one is small for his age (he's about 2 lbs more than Lucas and is 10 months old now) so I'm dealing with the complete opposite of the spectrum... The ladies here were great about making me feel better.... And trying to make me realize to not be so hard on myself about his weight/height...

Let's see, Everett was 7.4 @ birth and about 9.2 at 2 months.    He is formula fed.  My 1st was 8.8 at birth and he was 10.8 at 2 months.  My daughter was 7.7 at birth, and 9.0 at 2 months.

IMHO, I think babies gain EXACTLY as they are supposed to.  Some are smaller than others, some are larger.  But in my experience, the baby weight has not had any bearing whatsoever on what their child weights have been.  I didn't read the pp's, so sorry if this is redundant.  I would say Lucas is exactly as he needs to be and unless milestones aren't being met (skill/development-wise), I wouldn't worry.

Hugs,

Jo

Aethyn was 6 Lbs 13.5oz at birth and around 2 months he was about 11 Lbs...he was solely breastfed at that time.  It sounds like Lucas is doing great!  In my opinion it doesn't seem like he is gaining too much too fast at all!  Aethyn goes in spurts...one time he will be in the 50th percent and the next he will be in the 6th percent!
