Protein aversion in post-WLS pregnancy? *may make sensitive types sick!*

I'm still a year or so away from TTC after WLS, but I'm thinking hard already.  When I was pregnant with my awesome daughter, before I had my DS, I had terrible protein aversions.  Beef always tasted a bit off to me (I changed butcher shops and found it was STILL off) but I could handle a small amount of ground beef in a flavorful dish like spaghetti sauce, lamb and goat were totally Fear Factor, and chicken, which I love, was vile and I could have sworn it had been left outside in 90 degree weather for three days, even it was fresh.  Holy run-on sentence!   Anyway, the only protein I really loved was fish and at that time, the advice was not to exceed 2 servings a week and to avoid some types altogether (I think that's still the general advice.)  I could tolerate eggs but barely.  Cheese was OK too but there's only so much cheese you can stomach.

I got most of my protein through drinking a ton of milk every day, and through eating my max amount of fish.  It was pretty rough.

I am nervous I will have this issue in a post-op pregnancy.  I can tolerate a couple types of protein shakes occasionally, but I'm scared my body will turn on me and say heck no!  Since I am a DSer, I really need a lot of protein, too.  Since surgery, I have craved protein and eat it with gusto.

If you've been pregnant after WLS, did you have any issues with protein?  I hope I am just overthinking things!

*I put the caveat in the thread title because even hearing the word "chicken" made me nauseated when I was pregnant before!    Seriously, if I had had the choice between eating something like a rotten potato or a bite of dark meat chicken, I would have gone with the rotten potato!

I really can't do eggs or hamburger during this pg...and I really don't like fish, although I will eat canned tuna. I also don't stomach milk too well. You find ways to get around it though. Although my diet is pretty boring these days, being on a diabetic diet...I do what I have to do to make baby healthy. I use peanut butter every day...some jerky. I buy the expensive lunch meat without the bad preservative in it. You will be fine. And you might find that your aversions are totally different with each pg. Last one for me it was chicken totally...this time eggs and hamburger. Wierd. Good luck! Shari

Thanks, Shari!  Glad things are working out even with some aversions.  Best wishes for your pregnancy.

So this question is not at all related to the original post, *sorry* but what is the bad preservative in lunch meet?

I would guess nitrates or nitrites?
