I am afraid im not eating enough. I have no appitite at all and have been feeling nausous but not throwing up. I have read the baby will take what it needs but im only 8 weeks and i dont want to start off this way. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am craving ginger ale but know i cant drink soda.

Dr told me that I am probably eating enough - I am not holding down much either. She said that this early out (I am 10 weeks) the baby's nutritional needs are very low and they will take from our "reserves" as needed. That being said she said to make sure that I am eating something and we need carbs to stay out of ketosis.

Take a can of gingerale and stir it until it is flat - you should be OK with that just take tiny sips.

Good luck and hope that you feel better soon!

Just eat what you can, baby will be okay. I may get bashed for this but this is from my Nut. She told me basically that pregnancy throws all WLS rules out the window for a while because if I try to follow them to a tee I will do more harm then good. Eat carbs...feeling sick and can't get anything down...try and toasted bagel with cream cheese. Protein making you want to puke up something horrible...try chocolate or strawberry milk to make it taste better. Don't feel like you can stomach to eat more than a bit or two at a time...drink a little with your meal...not staying full longer means you will have to eat more frequently. Feeling like you can't bear to put anything in your mouth but you need something in your stomach...drink a cup of orange juice or apple juice, dialute it if necessary. And unless you can't handle the gas from soda, go ahead and drink it. I know when I feel really bad, a lil Pepsi is like my saviour..and I've always disliked soda.

Good Luck!

Wow Simone,

you are so right, my OB told me to strive for 1500 cals a day! and limit my excercising!! What the h%ll!! I cant get in 1500, and I have worked so hard, I cant stop going to the gym...and soda...I havent had a soda since way before WLS, and I am NOT going to start my Pepsi ADDICTION!!

We fought so much about these things, and as it turns out my OB is correct!! I have added carbs like toast and english muffins, left the sushi alone, turned away from sweet tea and drinking more water and diluted juices. I have a flat pepsi once a week to sorta satisfy the craving and im getting close to 1200 cals a day, but not 1500!! I still work out but 3 days instead of 5, 30 mins instead of an hour 1/2, and i have included water aerobics.

I eat 8 small meals that are vitamin packed and take my pills. I had a huge CRAVING for ice cream, but i dumped afterwards so i have to move on from it....

Yeah ladies, your preggers....you really dont expect to adhere strictly to your WLS rules? Come on!!

Both my nut and surgeon believe in realistic life goals...meaning no foods were ever banned to start with. I was always allowed to have juice in my day (had to be 100% and no more than 6 oz a day), carbs, and sugar if tolerated. Their key is moderation. They believe when you tell people no never again, thats when they do not learn how to control themselves and deal with the demons inside.

You are lucky you are still allowed to excersize. I am not. They removed me from my gym lol. Reason...with as little as I am able to eat right now, its barely enough to support me (I am lucky to end my day at 1000 cals). Therefore, it would be stupid to go to the gym and burn any up since I have none to spear in the first place and really should be about 400 cals higher a day. I do not dump thankfully, but I also do not have a taste for sweets these days so thats my blessing.

Good luck and feel free to keep in touch.

It helps to always have something on your tummy too. Don't go more than a couple hours without a small snack. Also, if you can do milk, that is an easy way to get in protein and calories. Like the others said, carbs are important to stay out of ketosis for baby and easier to tolerate in early pg. Once you start feeling better you can get more protein in. Good luck. Shari

I was (and still am) the exact same way. I lost a little weight at first and now I haven't gained but I'm not losing anymore. The baby is still growing at the rate it should according to my ultrasounds. The baby will take what it needs from your body. It will probably mean you'll be pretty tired, even more so than other pregnant women.

For me, some days are better than others. I can usually eat a decent sized (lapband portion) breakfast. Around lunch time I'm not even hungry but I try to nibble on something.

This isn't a great idea, but I eat somewhat unhealthy foods just because if you put a grilled chicken salad in front of me, I won't touch but a few bites. Give me a bean burrito and we'll talk lol. I don't do this all the time but sometimes it's the only way I can choke down anything because I typically have no appetite. When I cook at home, it's always healthy AND delicious, but I'm just now coming out of that pregnancy induced coma-like phase that most people refer to as the first trimester. I didn't cook much for the bulk of my first trimester because I was either sick or tired as hell or both. Things have gotten much better in the last week or so.
