Lets admit one thing- the bulk of people in general in this country take a doctor's word as the word of the Lord and ask no questions. People do little research on their own unless it's something that can take their life, like cancer. Even if they do research their situation, usually most of what they find online tells them what the doctor said. Modern medicine is practically forced to do scheduled C sections and inductions in hopes of preventing as many medical malpractice suits as possible. If you choose not to follow your doctor's orders in regards to said procedures, you typically have to sign a waiver. This is true with all medical procedures. Doctors have to be uber cautious and walk on eggshells to save their own ass.
It's great that you were able to use mind over matter and overcome the pain of childbirth. Not everyone has that in their skill set. I'd rather have my epidural and not worry about my blood pressure shooting through the roof because of the pain (since I had PIH with my first child and it will likely happen again). Even if it weren't for that, I'd rather have an epidural and not have to worry about the huge anxiety attack that will probably send me into hyperventilation. Again, pat on the back for you, but not all of us are so talented.

Baby#1 - I was induced at 39 weeks for high blood pressure (pre- my rny)
Baby#2 - I was induced at 39 weeks due to living over 1 hr. from my OB and L&D
Baby#3 - I will also be induced at 39 weeks (same as baby#2)
Baby#1 labor was 8 hrs from start to finish and 2 pushes
Baby#2 labor was 4 hrs from start to finish and 3 pushes
I had an epidural with both #1 and #2 and I will again with #3
I had 100% ZERO complications from the induction meds, the epi etc. I had 2 wonderful, calm, sweet, labors, deliveries, and births. It was 2 of the most joyful moments in my life. I'm sure #3 will be the same.
We ALL have the right to our own opinion

I think alot of scheduled c-sections are for medical reasons. I had one with Hannah, but I didn't always explain why. Most people really don't won't to hear the details of the three rectal surgeries I had. And that if I pushed (and God forbid tore) that I would probably be wearing depends for the rest of my life. I'm sure some people may still consider that not reason enough to have a c-section. It's my body, my choice!
