Thank you for your response. I think I am going to try a more balanced diet approach.

My doctor told me to go see my NUT and until then they told me to do 1300-1400 cals, but then I found out I am having twins... So I uped it another 300 so I was doing 1600 until I seen my Nut...on Monday she calculated cording to my weight and she told me I have to try and get in 3000 I think shes crazy automatically... But she wants me to stop losing weight because I have lost 30+ lbs in the last 6 weeks ... She told me not to could my cals, and do my best... but my weight loss should come to a stand still... I know everyone is different with the cals. it all depends on your weight and stuff also i see u had lap band and that changes things to I am sure.. I dont think I helped much but see a nut and a lot of the ladys on here were right... good luck..

The only time in my life that a NUT TOLD me to use butter and put sour cream on everything and to drink whole milk, was when I was preggo with the triplets LOL I got in about 2000 calories a day with them, but I could not do much more because I was so sick all the time. I can tell you that I was VERY unhealthy after they where born because I didn't eat enough or gain enough (I was 275 when I got pregnant, and was 275 when they where delivered, I came out of the delivery room weighing 40 lbs LESS then when I got pregnant). I did manage to keep myself out of keytosis by eating a lot of bad for me carbs. The true damage that I did to my body was not really evident until after they where born.

So eat up, and make sure you take all of your vitamins, those babies will take everything they need and leave you with NOTHING LOL

Some food suggestions to help you stay out of ketosis while eating some healthier choices.

Fiber One yogurt 50 calories 5 grams of fiber.
Fiber One bars 150 calories 9 grams of fiber.
Fruit but not fruit juice. Right now Grapefruit is starting its season and it is great. Apples are fresh right now too and dirt cheap. You WILL not gain wait eating fruit and your baby will love it.
I understand that you don't want to increase your carbs too much. I eat twice as many carbs as protein a day and eat 1400 calories a day but I exercise. I've managed to lose 70+ pounds in 8 months. You can easily maintain or gain within 25 (which will all come off) by eating healthy and doing light exercise. Carbs really are not the enemy and I believe that surgeons need to get out of that mentallity. Maybe for the first 6 months when it is hard to eat too many calories but it isn't realistic to think that you will spend a lifetime eating protein and vegetables. It isn't even healthy. Good luck!

Thank you. I do eat fruits, vegetables, and beans anyway (before I knew I was pregnant) so I know those have carbs in it, but I was limiting my intake of breads, tortillas, rice, pasta, those types of carbs. I guess if I eat the whole wheat versions it will be much healthier than the white flour types.

I read through the posts and I am glad you are seeing the importance of not going into ketosis during pg as the others have said. It is super important to have a balanced diet with good carbs. I know you are worried about old habits, but adding good carbs like whole grain bread and fruit is not the same as adding sweets back into your diet. I learned to treat a little fruit as my sweet tooth treat.

Also, something to consider. The baby will most likely take what it needs from you...but you could definitely suffer from deficiencies. Yes, you do have a fat store, and stores of vitamins...but those can quickly decline in pregnancy. I am 4 years post op and during this pg have battled low d, low iron, low b-12 and diabetes, because our hormone balance changes so much during pg...which were normal pre pregnancy. It will be important to have levels drawn regularly. I think you are a bander so might not have the same malabsorbtion issues, but better safe than sorry. I get tested once a month and adjust my meds accordingly. Good luck. Shari

Thanks Shari. I am going to add in some whole grain carbs and try to up my calories and see what happens. I haven't even the slightest idea as to how many calories I need to maintain. I really need to speak to my OB and a nutritionist.
