Antibiotics at Very End of Pregnancy?
Hi Ladies--
When I saw my OB this week (Wednesday) I mentioned I had been having some sinus pain in my forehead and been treating it with regular sudafed and tylenol for several days, both meds on his "OK" list. He said to see my doc if it didn't clear up in 48 hours. So, I am seeing my internist this afternoon because the pain is rather intense directly above my right eye and to be truthful, it's getting worse rather than better.
I suspect this is a pure sinus matter, as I have no other symptoms or complaints, healthwise. Although my internist uses antibiotics sparingly, I wonder if he'll prescribe one to help clear things up before our big day next week. (C-section is one week from today.)
Anyone have experience with antibiotics at the very end of their pregnancy? In hindsight, was it a good or bad thing?
Thank you for any input,
--Paula
Update: Back from doctor's with my Z-pack (zithromax). I've responded well to it in the past and hope to this time too! Thanks for your feedback Shari and Cindy!

They know which antibiotics are safest during pg and I would definately get rid of the infection before delivery if you can. I just did a round of antibiotics for an ear infection, but it is related to my bronchitis, which is viral...so they didn't help. I just can't imagine being this sick having a baby (I am coughing profusely though). I say trust the doc and get yourself better. Lots of water can help a bit too. GL Shari
I was bit by a dog at the dog park when I was almost 9 months pregnant. I was given a course of preventative antibiotics (amoxicillian I think).
I had one other dose at around month 4-5 of my pregnancy for an ear infection.
The 2nd round of antibiotics later in pregnancy gave me a HORRIBLE yeast infection.... UGH. And I was afraid to put the anti-yeast medication too far up inside me (TMI I know) because I kept picturing my cervix being dialiated and the medicine getting to through the placenta to my baby.
(The doctor looked crossed-eyed at my concerns on this.... but still.... I only used the meds enough to take away most of the symptoms. Later after birth I did a full course to compeletely clear up the infection. I was worried Cooper would be born with a yeast infection from coming down my birth canal....but nope, he was fine!)
That was the only "down side".
Hope they get you all fixed up so you can enjoy your last few days of pregnancy !
Cindy
