7 week old with a stuff nose?

My poor guy! He is so stuffy and sneezy! We have a cold here (although DH woke up coughing like a mad man, so not sure if its JUST a cold) and my little guy is suffering. I have a call into my ped, but still waiting for a call back. We have been using saline and suction, and he is propped up, or sitting up all the time to keep it from choking and gagging him.

I have been nursing him in the "Australian" position, and spending time in a steamy bathroom before feeding, but he just does not seem that interrested in eating. He is seriously breaking my heart, especially when he smiles at me even though I know he feels like crap.

ugh! Any BTDT mom's who have advice, I am open to hearing it!

Courtney, you are doing EVERYTHING right. And unfortunately, there isn't much else that can be done for babies that age.

Warm baths, and suctioning are going to help the most. I surely wish I had another answer. But as Jantzen has the same, he was just at the doc wednesday for check up, and doc told me the same thing I already knew there wasn't anything I could do but it always helps to hear from the doc too!

So as sad as it is that there isn't anything better or quicker to fix them, I think you are doing all the right things. I hope he feels better soon!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

No, my ped didn't do anything when my daughter had a stuffy nose at that age either. You'll probably just have to let it run its course. Seems like you're doing a good bit already that will surely help. Another thing is possibly try a cool mist humidifier? Not sure how much that will help with a baby so young. Hope he feels better soon!!

Thanks, pedi gave me the same advice, let it run its course and jus****ch for fever. Poor guy REALLY wants to nurse, but he can't breath and do it at the same time, so he is leaking all over the place and getting so frustrated. I read somewhere that breast milk actually works better then saline, so I might give it a try if we get desprate LOL

I hope your little guy feels better soon :(  I have to add a comment about the breast milk.  I was told that breast milk is the best "antibiotic".  Squirt it in the babies eye if they have blocked tear ducts or an eye infection, etc.  Maybe give it a try?
I have to agree with all of the PP's about the cold mist humidifier.  We have a little elephant one that is constantly set up in Libby's room.  We only turn it on when she sounds the slightest bit congested though.  The air here is extremely dry and the humidifier helps a lot!  Also, Johnson and Johnson has the vapor bubble bath out that smells like vicks, not sure if he is too young for it though.  Oh and vicks on the bottom of the feet and then put socks on.  I swear it works.

Ok, I did it LOL I pumped some milk and then used it to flush out his nose, it worked so well I did it to myself and it was like a miracle! I went from not being able to breath at all to being totally clear for over an hour! So, bottom line, it works like a charm and I will be using BM from now on! Who knew something that came from our body could be so awsome! LOL

I also ran out to Target and got the humidifier, it seems to be working for all of us! (he is in my room still).

Thanks so much for the post!

That is awesome that the BM milked.  I hope it is still working and that you guys are all on the mend.  :-)

Thanks, I figured this was all I could do and the pedi said I was doing all I could. Ugh, I hope he gets over it quick because it's breaking my heart LOL Hopefully your man is already on the mend too!
