Acid reflux anyone?
Hi all;
I am 21 weeks pregnant and have started with the WORST heartburn this past weekend. I have been on Nexium an acid reducer for a long time and assumed I wouldn't get it because of that. I called my OB and she prescribed me zantac 150 to take 2x a day but the HB STILL wakes me up at night - night time is the absolute worst. It's also accompanied by a general sick/sour feeling throughout the day too. I grabbed some tums today - hopefully those will help.
Anyone experiencing bad Acid reflux? Do you take anything other than tums? What about mylanta? Sooooo frustrating.

I have had GERD and been on acid reducers since my pregnancy with my daughter in 1997. At that time they would not allow anything during pregnancy, no studies.
I hoped that it would go away with the surgery, it does for most people, but not my luck, still have horrible acid reflux. I am on the generic for Prilosec OTC. I was on one a day but have had to go to two a day due to break through. I take one at night and one in the morning. I was on it for my last pregnancy in 2007-2008 and am on it during this pregnancy also. Doctor's have had no problem with it whatsoever.
As far as Tums and Mylanta, once you have used it enough it will give you HORRIBLE diahrea and can cause dehydration. I got to that point during my pregnancy with my daughter and the doctor forbid me from using them also. The only thing I could do was sleep propped up and drink water, lots of water to keep it diluted as much as possible. I used to keep a gallon of water next to my bed at night and would go through the whole thing during the night trying to control the heartburn.
Good luck!
