Freaking out about my 18 month old!

About four or five days ago my son began to teeth.  He does not do well teething.  He runs a fever, has diahrea and cannot sleep.  He is getting in 8 teeth at once!  Four incisors and four pre-molars.  Well he has not slept well and we have been giving him ibuprofen to get rid of the fever and orajel to help his gums not ache and my hubby has been up with him 3-4 times a night due to his crying and discomfort, I am on bedrest and cannot lift him.

Today he only woke up once last night, went back to sleep at about 7 am and slept til 10 am.  He woke up and was running a fever.  It had been over 6 hours since his last dose of ibuprofen so we gave him a dose and some orajel.  After about an 1 1/2 hours he began running a fever again?!?  He started getting cranky again and was throwing fits.  Then he changed, he won't let us put him down, he lays in our arms like a rag doll and just whimpers.  It freaked me out so I called the 24 hour nurse on our insurance and they told us to take him to the ER.  So I am stuck at home on bedrest and my hubby has gone to the ER with my baby and I have no idea what is going on!!!!

I know there is nothing you guys can do but it helps just to write this out and try not to be so anxious.  The hubby has his cell and will call when he learns anything.  It scares me when something changes like that all of a sudden.  You think you are dealing with one thing but it changes and now you don't know if that is what it is anymore.

I HATE THIS!!!

I am hoping that too, it is just the added fever not controlled by the ibuprofen.  His fever was 101.4 on the ibuprofen, definitely not good.  I always worry I will call just as the doctor has stepped into the room and is asking questions and I will just be interrupting.  I just hope they don't make him wait in the waiting room for three hours before he gets taken to a room.

Well my hubby just called and they are on their way home now.  He has a viral infection on top of the teething.  We have to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen to keep the fever down.  They think that muscle fatigue and ache besides exhaustion is what is keeping him so lethargic.  Anyway they told us just to keep doing what we are doing and make sure we watch him closely for dehydration.

I am sorry you are going through this. I know that dehydration is def. a concern.  When my son went through this, we gave him popsicles (doctor suggestion) to keep him hydrated and the coolness helped his gums.  I never liked giving my son sugar like that, but it def. helped us.  I have found that Popsicle brand makes a kind called Scribblers that melt real slow.  We are using them now as my son just had his tonsils and adenoids out and we have to keep him hydrated.

Hope this helps.  The good news is at least he is getting them all at once, my son got them one at a time for two months.

Praying for you all,

Jackie
