Rice Cereal, Vaccines, Tylenol and Thanks
Cooper had his 4 month visit today!
He is : 19lbs 1 oz and 26 inches long ! That is 97th percentile for weight and 90th for height. His head circumfrance is also 90%.
The nurse saw him sitting on the exam table and said to him "you're too young to sit like that". When the doctor came in Cooper was sitting and playing with his blanket (no support from me) for a good 10 minutes while I talked to the doc. He said Cooper sitting like that was more like a 6 month old and not a 4 month old. He said not to worry that Cooper can't (won't) roll over yet. He said he thinks Cooper COULD do it.... just is choosing not to.
Of course he took one look at Cooper's size and said for-sure it's time to start cereal! I would want to wait if it weren't for Cooper's size -- the doc said that cereal is less calorie dense so will help stabilize his weight -- and will probably keep him fuller longer. (More sleep for mama?) Also - it might help the reflux Cooper has had the last month or so....
I am real real excited ! I cannot wait to give him some cereal. I was going to do it tonight -- but my husband is going to the local school board meeting (He's trying to reform the district BEFORE Cooper gets there! LOL) so he won't be here at bedtime... so I will wait.
I do have a question though -- the box of cereal just says "mix equal parts cereal and liquid - formula, breast milk or water. No need to heat" So I just mix it up? No heating? It doesn't have to "cook" ?
Doc said Cooper would like it more with formula mixed in --- but making it with water might be smarter considering his size.
Oh - the nurse asked me if I had given him Tylenol. I told her about the study/article I posted earlier and she said "Talk to the doctor about that". Well she talked to the doctor - when he came in he said he had read that same study last week. His opinion was the control group was small (around 100 babies) and the change in immunity response (he called it something more sophisticated) was so slight he didn't think there was a real reason not to continue Tylenol - at least one dose beforehand to help the baby in the first couple hours afterwards. He also said he was impressed I was reading medical studies and I told him I saw it on the news first and looked up the study stuff later. I don't routinely read medical journals for fun. LOL
And THANK YOU everyone for all the great suggestions for cleaning supplies safe for babies! I don't know what I'd do without ya'all !

Surgery on 4/25/05 , Dr. Alverdy in Chicago. God Bless the DS !!!
Highest Weight = 412lbs, Surgery Weight = 359lbs, Current Weight = 155lbs (5'7" tall)http://www.picturetrail.com/gid8138761
My son was 20lbs at 4 months so I had to start cereal too! He liked it warm. So I would warm a bottle of breast milk and use that in the cereal so it wasn't cold. I think he meant you don't heat rice cereal like you would let's say oat meal that we would eat. Cam had major reflux too and it did help! Also he did stay full longer :) Cooper seems to be doing very well!! I watch a 5 month old and it's just so much fun!! I love his age!! Your baby is just darling!

Hi Mama and cutie Coop!!!!
Great appointment and thanks for asking the doc about that study...I am a bigger believer in Ibuprofen....I think that you can do that at 6 months...Nathan had his first flu shot on Sat and then will have the booster part in 3 weeks with his other 1st year shots. I will be giving him ibuprofen as his 6 months shot he got an ugly fever...I was a little freaked.....
On the cereal, Nathan had reflux too....and cereal helped....I did mix a little in his bottle and he loved eating cereal (and still does). I just mix it with his bottle formula. I do not heat it up but what Jackie said makes sense if he likes it warmer.
Nathan started out at 9 pounds 9 ounces. He was 90th percentile plus even before he was born. Now he is about 22 pounds (50 something percentile), 30 inches (75th percentile) and 95th percentile head...lol.....babies are strange in how they grow. Just as long as they are healthy....
Thanks for asking the cleaning question the other day too...I was excited you asked it :)
Take care my friend!!!

yes....he is fine... if his belly muscles are strong enough to sit him up...he can roll over... but probley hasnt mastered the skill.. or has the cordination... as far as rice cereal.... i would mix with for formula... that stuff taste like nothing... so it will give it a little flavor.... when jay got older ( 6 mo) i mixed with 2 oz juice and 4 oz baby food fruit... hes growing like a champ and so perfect... sorry for the typos (more then normal) took a head ache pill now every thing is just kinda blending together
