birth control issues
Hi. I hope I am posting this in the right place. I am 4 weeks post op lap RNY. I have been taking Seasonique for about 3 years now and I love it. No period for 3 months at a time. I had a period one week before surgery. I had one the week after surgery and then I have started once again. Apparently, as expected the pills are not working right now.
Could you all share what you done after the surgery for birth control? I have been wondering about the Nuvaring? Any suggestions? Thanks so much

Up until having my surgery, I wasn't having periods. I started a week after surgery and had been like clockwork ever since. We attempted the nuvaring, that was a no go. I'm very sensitive to hormonal BC so I should have known, which is why no pill also. My husband and I used condoms and an extra spermicidal back up. I ended up pregnant at 6 mos. post op because the condoms were only effective 20% of the time since (TMI ALERT) my vagina likes to keep them...they always have, so we went with the back up spermicide. About the only thing I can give 100% effective rate on is abstainence...usually though, that's not an option either. LOL!! I wish you much luck in finding what works for you.

I was told to use 2 forms of BC. I used the monthly pill (tried seasonique but it didn't work for me. Too much break thu bleeding.) and condoms. I know my pill was a high dose and my periods were totally normal.
I also know that your fat stores estrogen. So as you drop the weight your hormones go wacko.

You are wise to realize this issue now. I had no idea BCP's don't always absorb correctly post-RNY, until I became PG a month later.
I now have the Mirena IUD and have been very happy with it. Light spotting the first few months, but hardly enough to call it a period.
Congratulations on your surgery and good luck with your BC choice!
