Vitimin Deficiencies

Well, I am 5 weeks (on Mon, the 19th) PG and I just got back a bunch of blood tests (I took them at the beginning of my 4th week) and it turns out that I am Aenemic (still - even though I take Iron and pre-natal vitimins everyday), vitimin D deficient and my thyroid meds are too low (I take this everyday, as well).  I had a miscarriage in April of this year and I am now panicking about this PG.

I take a fist full of vitimins everyday and I am worried now about another miscarriage...I am worried that for some reason my body won't ever absorb enough vitimins...has anyone else experienced this?  Taking your presribed vitimins religiously and it still not being enough?  And, what do they do if I am already PG and find that I am deficient of all these things?  Will it make a difference if they amp up my vitimins?  Can they inject me?

Just stressed out...which isn't good for the baby either.

make sure that they get your thyroid up PRONTO - they say that if it is off you can even have trouble conceiving. AS far as the rest of the vites - call your surgeon and ask them for some tips.

Good luck!

Jessica,
The whole malabsorption thing can be difficult to tell. I was sure mine would be off, but at every draw they are actually above the normal range, so I don't have to add extra iron or up anything. In fact, some of my levels were too high on things like B-1 and B-12, so I actually can take less of that. Seems kind of wierd, because I don't have to take nearly what others do, and I am always fine. That being said, my Mom had this surgery nearly twelve years ago now, but she had a lot of problems from the start absorbing iron especially. It's good that you got things checked out. My doc did say it was fine to increase or decrease vitamins whenever, even during pregnancy. The thyroid stuff might be having some impact on that too, so get some medical advice on that ASAP. Additionally, I know a lot of ladies on this forum have received shots and transfusions for iron while pregnant, so I know it can be done and works great. Best of luck!

Thanks so much ladies.  I was freaking out yesterday...I have a lot of fear about having another miscarriage.  :-(  I am calling my doc today to talk to her about the vitamin deficiencies.  I am hoping that they can just load me up and get me on track.  It's just frustrating when you think that you are doing everything you can to make a safe little home for your unborn baby and you find out that what you have done hasn't been enough.

Thanks again for the info.  :-)

I did.  I was very deficient during pregnancy after RNY, and I am sure it caused more issues.

I also have two miscarriages back to back just before the final one - and it probably triggered lots of the deficiencies.
