hey everyone,

I am seven months post op. I started at 234 and currently weight 150.  I am still about 20lbs away from my goal, but I am itching to get pregnant...i know the dr said to wait 12-18 months before getting pregnant...what are the risks of getting pregnant earlier?

well I'm pregnant and I'm 6 months out... wasnt done on purpose but I take my vitamins and up  my calories and get my vitamin levels checked often, seeing a nut and other then that as long as I do what I am suppose to my babies should be fine. Others will have better things to say as well... I am having twins and so far my babies and I are fine. I am still losing weight...but I am also 397 last time I checked... so I still have a lot to g...idk if I helped any but  lots of people have babies after there out early and have no problems... I say go for it...lol but other might not agree... best of luck..

there is a reason they say to wait.... your body is most likley in ketosis which can cause damage to the babies developing brain... your blood sugars will prob fall pretty quickly... you also still malabsorb alot... this will cause YOU harm since the baby will take everything he/she needs from you... why dont you just wait 5 months to ensure the best chances for you and baby?...really thats the smart thing to do

You were EXACTLY the weight I started at and the EXACT weight I got pregnant at.  However, I was 4 months post op...OOPS!  Knowing where you are at, I'm sure you aren't in ketosis anymore but you never know.  Are you still losing??  If so, I'd wait.  I actually stopped losing and hadn't lost in over a month when I got pregnant.  I went thru ketosis early but never while pregnant.

However, I never lost another pound!  I gained 50 with that pregnancy, lost 42 within 2 weeks, and started this pregnancy 18 months later without losing those last pesky 8 so I never made it to my goal.  BUMMER!!

Many people here are NOT too keen on those trying to get pregnant before 12 months.  You'll get all sorts of negative feedback if you do it on purpose and announce it.  (Just an FYI.)  However, there are sooooo many here that have gotten pregnant without trying way before their 1st year was over and so far, no babies with brain damage that I've heard of.

Good luck!

See I agree with what you said ksandra. I mean I definitely didn't want to get pregnant right now cuz i am still obese... but I feel as if god wanted me to get pregnant at this point and time...i dont know why. here i was doing so well lost 125 lbs or so and I started my surgery at 519.  but with protecting i still got pregnant with twins... If I had a choice I would have waited til after 1 year cuz I am getting married in August ...now I am having twins in may and getting married in Aug. lol

Everyone has there own opinions but all I can say is  whatever happens ...happens  if you get pregnant before your 1 year  act like it was a accident... I dunno the choice is really yours... good luck...

you do get a lot of negative feedback.  it kinda sucks but...i will be 9 months post op and i am 15 lbs from goal, and MY SURGEON, and NUT and pcp gave me the go ahead to prepare for getting pregnant. we are both going to the dr, making sure we are both healthy and not using any assisted drugs to get pregnant, but at 1 yr post op if we arent pregnant we will go to those measures.

having a baby is why i did this surgery...ill be damn is some makes me feel bad for my dreams! I know whats best for me and mine....

best of luck to you!  i say go for it!!
