Well, 6 pounds at 17 weeks doesn't seem like too much. Granted, a lot of women gain hardly anything. I am still early in my pregnancy but I am not counting on not gaining. I plan on keeping it under 25. I've been doing exercises approved by my OBGYN- if you think about it, you're nearly half way. It's hard to gain weight at all. I know a lot of women here have talked about appetite increasing. Do you still talk to your surgeon or a nut? It might be a good time to go if you feel like maybe you need some eating advice. That's where I usually turn when I start to feel lost, and believe me, I do. Good luck. And congrats on 17 weeks!

Read some of the previous posts.  A lot of women have these issues that have had WLS.  I gained FIFTY with my last pregnancy and was only 4 months post-op when I got pregnant.  I lost 42 immediately after having him.
This time I've gained 36 with my twins at 32.5 weeks and I don't care.  I used to, but a healthy baby (or two) is more important NOW than worrying what I'll weigh after they are born.  You have a lifetime to work that off!  Please don't stress over it too much.  As long as you are eating healthy, there's not much you can do about the gain during pregnancy.

Maybe the baby is saying "I'm HUNGRY!" and that's why you can eat more right now?  I know my OB said it's all hormones, cuz I was eating like a horse even at 4 months post op!

Good luck,

6 pounds in 17 weeks and you're pregnant?!?! I'm sorry, but do you see the ridiculousness of this? You're going to be hungrier - just make better food choices to at least set your own mind at ease (since you need that) but don't *not* eat or eat  less often because you're "WORRIED ABOUT GAINING WEIGHT WITH THE PREGNANCY".

If there are guidelines for eating after WLS while pregnant, please share.

I am in exactly the same place as you.  I am 17 weeks and have gained 6 lbs and I am fine with it.  I read that the average weight gain for this timeframe is 5 - 10 lbs, so we are on the low end of that.  The bottom line is that your body is going through many changes and is requiring more energy, so we have to provide the nutrition that it needs.  The ultimate goal is to have a healthy baby and for you to stay healthy.  Focus on that and not the scale and you shouldn't have a problem with excess weight gain anyway.

Take care...

Im 27 weeks 1 day and have gained 9-10 lbs. My OB is very happy with that and said im fine. MY nut said hunger will increase and to eat smaller but more frequent meals. Honestly I eat ever 2 hours. I seem to feel full and then right at that 2 hour mark I feel starved. Im sure you are fine. Dont worry about gained weight. 6 lbs is not alot.. Now if you said you were 18 weeks and gained 80... i would be alittle concerned.

You also have to remember that the weight you have gained is probably the weight of the baby, the increased blood volume, and the amniotic fluid.   Please relax about weight.  This is a time to think about being healthy and let nature take it's course.
