Hypoglycemia and Pregnancy - tell me it gets better
I had RNY in March 2008. I am now 11 weeks pregnant after getting the go ahead from my surgeon and OB. Prior to the pregnancy I had a couple bouts of reactive hypoglycemia but now that I'm pregnant it is becoming more frequent. My OB says it is normal and it should get better as the pregnancy progresses but in the meantime I hate this feeling.
Can anyone give me any insight? I was diabetic prior to RNY but have been in remission since surgery. I feel like I have traded one problem for another.

LOL Sorry, I know what you mean. I have Vasovagal episodes (when my blood pressure goes WAY low and can lead me to passing out.) that my cardiologist said could get worse when I am preggers. I know I felt crappier when I was preggers like when I have an episode. I had high blood pressure pre-op and now the vasovagal and a low blood pressure all the time.
No advice about the hypoglycemia. Good luck!

Not sure if you are testing regularly but if you are, I would suggest eating something like peanut butter crackers when you see your number dropping. Usually if I wait until I have the feeling nothing works, but if I catch it beforehand, I can raise my sugar before the crash. Hope that works for you too!

I have hypoglycemia and it was MUCH worse in the first 16-18 weeks of pregnancy. Although I did everything I should have to avoid crashes (eating right away, six mini meals a day, protein each time, no sugar, etc.) my low blood sugar would nose dive. It would take a cup or more of OJ each time to bring it back up--which I learned to have readily available at work, in my purse, and in the car. My OB told me it would improve once the baby was bigger and took over and he was right. I continued to have low blood sugar during the rest of my pregnancy but no symptoms, I felt great. Hang in there!
My first pregnancy was hell. The only thing that kept me on my feet was the only thing I wasn't supposed to do. Go figure. I tried the "protein ONLY" diet, which of course is GREAT for ketones and such, I tried the carb only diet, etc. Nothing else worked. It was bad the entire pregnancy.
The 2nd pregnancy wasn't bad at all.
You do have a meter, yes?
