How long do you stay full after eating?
ok, so before I was pregnant just a few months ago, I could eat a meal and stay full for at least 2-3 hrs and not have to eat again. I've noticed that since I became pregnant, I only stay full for an hour and then am hungry again! It's so frustrating! I try to eat a good amount of protein and a balance of carbs, etc at each meal like pre op but it's just not satisfying enough now. And I notice that if eat something with bread in it, I actually get full and stay fuller longer (which I like). But it's frustrating because I usually eat a meal now and am satisfied, but not FULL. There's a few times where I'm actually full and I love feeling satisfied for that time I'm not hungry. I'm hoping it's a pregnancy thing and this'll go away after I'm not pg anymore! Or maybe it'll continue while I'm nursing too, who knows! lol I remember the days pre op where I'd gorge myself on a large breakfast and not be full until dinnertime or eat a large lunch and not be hungry till like 8:00 at night. That was kind of nice staying full for so long, but being 265 lbs wasn't so nice....
And I feel like I can eat like twice as much now as I'm supposed to be eating for having this WLS. But I am 16 months out and maybe I CAN eat more now? Like I can eat 3 pieces of pizza (probably 2 of the 3 pieces with the crust) and then I get full. Or I can eat an egg sandwich and 1/3 of a banana and then I'm full (which is 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of american cheese on top of a piece of bread). But then like an hour later, I'm hungry again! I feel like I can eat portion-wise what I used to before I had surgery, but then I think about it and I really can't. I can probably eat about half of what I used to (but not eat certain things like icecream or loads of chocolate...lol).
Also, I wait about 45 mins to an hour after eating to drink too, because I know that'll wash the food out and I'll be hungry again if I drink too soon. And my morning sickness and nausea have been gone for about a week now, so my appetite is really back, so maybe that's part of it. I haven't gained any weight (well maybe like 1-2 lbs but it keeps coming and going on the scale), so I guess that's a good thing!
Anyone else feel like a pig and can't stay full for very long?

Yes! Yes! Yes! I thought it was just me. Since I got pregnant I eat more and I no longer dump - *not* a good thing for me.
Good for you that your weight is stable! I've put on a few pounds but nothing a good trip to the bathroom wouldn't fix! (TMI, sorry! - but you understand)

same here...I actually get really sick if I go more then 2 hours if i dont have something to eat... no dumping I think it's cuz my babies are getting all of it really... My daughter was born before my surgery and I haven't been pregnant sense then until now... i am going to see my nut next monday hopefully she can help cuz it's almost like I just graze all day... I dunno
Same here....example I ate dinner at 5:30 last night...nice portion of roasted pork; red potato and veg....no problems getting that down. And by 6:30; I was grabbing a milk with ovaltine (trying not to eat)....that didn't hold me for long before I grabbed an apple and then still had to eat a bowl of cereal before bed. My gastric dr told me; it's not that my stomach stretched etc; it's your body adjust to digesting faster/slower as it needs to. So while preggo....we are digesting faster than before (body needs more to keep two going and producing hormones not to mention a baby); therefore it has adjusted. So, I keep telling myself this is temporary, but I also gained more weight than I wanted this past month, so I am trying to be sure I am making heathy choices for snacking....
speaking of...it's time for my snack! Have a good day ladies! Stacey

I am not preggers, but hoping to be soon...I am just sharing the experience of a coworker who had WLS. She said that while she was pregnant, she could eat soooo much more than beforehand. She could also eat things she couldn't tolerate before like chicken nuggets and other bad food. Then after she gave birth, she wasn't able to eat that much anymore. So hopefully you'll go back to normal after your baby is born.
Mommy to 2 of the most beauiful little girls in the whole universe and still in love with my hubby of 8 years. LIFE IS GOOD!
I had a different surgery from you -- but I was hungry ALL THE TIME while pregnant !
Plus - my blood sugar would dip if I didn't eat for a couple of hours. I was eating every hour - and a lot more carbs (cookies, crackers, granola bars) than I normally would eat.
The good news? That crazy-hungry feeling went away after I had the baby. In fact sometimes now I "forget" to eat for 4-6 hours (pre pregnancy I ate every 2-3 hours just by habit).
While pregnant - towards the end - I had to get up at night to eat. I'd eat half a sandwich and some chips or a granola bar just so I could go back to sleep !
I think you're normal !

Stacey, thanks so much for that explanation from your doctor! It all makes sense now and it helps to know that other pregnant women are going through this too. It's this stage of eating a lot more than normal and then getting hungrier a lot sooner that we have to get used to while pregnant now I guess. I just didn't know why my appetite has changed so much, but figured it was due to the pregnancy. But hey we are busy making a human life inside of us and need the extra nourishment! It's been so frustrating to me because I can eat a lot more then pre-pg, not get full, and then be hungry like an hour later. I was wondering if it would be like this after surgery too or just because I was pregnant!!!
I think it was Cindy who said it went away after the baby came... thank goodness! I hate this feeling! I am eating a lot more carbs than normal and stuff I shouldn't and haven't gained a pound! I wonder if it'll be a little like this too while I'm nursing. Probably not though, making a baby takes a lot more calories than making milk. I know I'll be way thirsty though when nursing, from last time I did it.
thanks again for the info! I am a lot less confused and frustrated now! Eat up ladies! lol
