1 yr surgerversay .. and I feel like a failure

Today is my 1 yr surgery anniversary and I somewhat feel like I failed.  I lost 80 lbs in the first 5 mos... which was great... got pg at 5.5 mos and put back on 25 so far.

Don't get me wrong, I am excited about the pg but feel like a failure with the weight loss.  I see so many women get pg with the RNY and don't gain .... or even lose if their not at goal but that's not the case with me.

So, as I sit today.. .I am 28 wks pg.... with a blessing but about 60 lbs from goal... sigh....

Just a bunch of mixed emotions I guess...

You are not a failure! Most will tell you from this board that they gained alot of weight too with their pregnancy, but they will also tell you that most of it practically fell off after the baby was born. But, then there are some that are still working on getting it off.

Like you said, you have a blessing! That baby needs to grow too and it's taking what it can from you. Don't worry so much about the weight gain now. After baby gets here, you can then concentrate back on yourself and get the weight off by following the "rules" of WLS. The 5 day pouch test can get you started in the right direction.

Try not to worry about the weight... I gained 10 lbs with my daughter this time last year, but after she was born and literally within weeks, I lost 34 lbs. Just hang in there.... It's your hormones getting the best of you.  :)

Thanks...  I think you're right... my hormones are wacky and getting the best of me.   It's a crying day if you know what I mean.

You are NOT a failure!  You are building a strong, healthy baby in there, and that's all that matters right now.  Your tool will still be there after the baby is born and you will get right back on track, I'm sure!

Good luck and keep your chin up!

NOT a failure!  Don't worry about it.  Just think how much healthier you are with that 80 lbs gone before your pregnancy and how much better you feel!  I know my second pgcy will be ten times better than the first.  I was 240 lbs when I got preggo with my first!  Now I'm a healthy 170 and even though I'm not at goal, I'm super excited that I'll actually be able to enjoy this pregnancy without all the physical pain I endured with the first b/c of all the excess weight.

You're doing great...don't worry about it!  :)

on your profile, it says your dream is to have another child - REMEMBER THIS!!! Embrace this pregnancy, this child.  No, you will never have the same window of weight loss again, but it seems that you got what you wanted out of the deal.

With wise food choices during the pregnancy and exercise you can maintain your health and then lose post- pregnancy with that same effort.

God Bless,
Leila

You're right my dream was another child and it is being answered.

Part of the weight problem is food choice but a lot has to do with no exercise.  I was told no exercise while pg... only routine walking and working.  I have prior pg issues and had ds at 32.5 weeks... hoping to go full term this time.

I got pregnant 4 months post op at 150 lbs and gained all the way to 200.  I felt like a failure too but lost all but 8 after he was born.  I gained FIFTY pounds!  My surgeon took one look at me and said "I'm not worried, it's all baby!" because he originally only wanted me to gain 15 lbs.  That didn't happen!

It will come off after delivery.  Don't feel like a failure yet!  You have after delivery to feel that way!  LOL...
