Pregnancy after 40 and after WLS

I am 5 yrs post op and considering getting pregnant again, I will be 40 in Jan........my kids with my first marriage are 7 and 10.....concerned about my age and post op pregnancy.....anyone have insight?

I am 39, 4 years post op and due with my second any day. Being 5 years out of surgery you should be able to eat enough food, but you will want to monitor your vitamin levels closely and stay on top of your supplements. (start folic acid prior to becoming pg as it reduces risks of birth defects) As for your age, there is some risk having children at an ama (advanced maternal age)which is 35. A higher risk for a downs baby, etc. Most of the time things are okay...but you may want to consider talking to your ob if that is something that concerns you. One thing with post op pregnancies is that you are probably way healthier than when you were obese and had your first 2. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am 41 1/2 (will ber 42 in March) and have been pg four times post WLS...w/four mc.  The mc are not related to the WLS...they're most likely because my hormones are out of whack.  As soon as I get the nerve up to go POAS, I'll test and see if I cam make that 5x post WLS...

Good luck on whatever you decide...but I'd personally tell you to go for it.  There are a lot of women who are having babies at 40...and your WLS has nothing to do with it.

When you going to test????

I'll have the health unit do a test tomorrow.  I did do a test today (an Indo one) and it was a negative...but no sign of AF yet and I'm CD33 today...and I'm very regular 30/31 days normally.  The last time, the Indo test was negative when the health unit was positive.  Trying not to get my hopes up too high...but at least not ruling it out.  I'll let you know tomorrow what I find out!

You want me to send you some US tests?

LOL...thanks.  Hopefully I'll know something before they'd be able to get here....I'll do a post in just a minute w/the latest 'know nothing' information....maybe someone else has some suggestions on WTF is going on?

Age and post-WLS were definitely two separate issues for me.  I am older than you and neither my husband nor I had other children before so please keep that in mind...

When I was 43, I went to an OB/GYN and talked with him about our wanting to have a baby.  He explained everything as far as my age and trying to conceive, the health of the baby if I did conceive and my health--and suggested I go to an OB specializing in fertility problems.  After talking with her (and not conceiving on own after a couple of months), we opted to try three rounds of IUI--no go.  We could have continued, tried other fertility meds, etc.  but decided to meet with an adoption agency and reproductive endocrinologists at two fertility clinics.  We wanted children and it didn't matter how we had them, but frankly IVF was much less expensive than adoption so we saved the money and eventually went that route.  First round of IVF, all three embryos implanted--although I lost one baby at 8 weeks and another baby at 10 weeks, we had our miracle son, perfectly healthy, when I was 45.  I'm 46 now and we tried |VF again this summer with the frozen embryos from when I was 44--transferred three embryos again and one implanted, but I lost the baby--had a missed miscarriage and then a D&C at 11 weeks.  My RE assured me it was nothing I did but because of my age of my eggs, the embryos had chromosomal or genetic defects.

I was never pregnant before WLS so I have nothing to compare it to but I know it was a very healthy pregnancy in part because I was no longer obese and had no health-related problems.

I'm not pregnant or trying but I'm close to 40 and have a longer common channel and have not lost the weight I should have with a DS and still have high blood pressure (HBP).  I am very afraid to get pregnant and give birth after age 40.  I may never loose the weight and there may be other problems w/HBP.    I don't want to endanger my life/health or my baby's life/health or well being.  That's just me.  I also have to think about the cost if there are medical issues.  I know it (bad things/problems/issues) can happen to anybody, but I still think about it.  

If you have any concerns, I suggest you speak to your PCP or even your surgeon.  It seems like ladies with kids pre-wls don't seem to have many problems, if any, so you are prolly okay to try.  Good luck.
