I just got a call from my gyno's office that back in June (when I was preggers) I had a pap done. Well it came back abnormal. They forgot to contact me. It's now Oct!! So I need to go in and have a Colposcopy. I've never had a abnormal pap. I'm pretty nervous. Anyone had an abnormal pap and everything was ok? How bad is the biopsy going to hurt? This has me pretty mad...I really think I'm switching Dr offices.

I would be SUPER pissed! I have had several abnormal pap's over the years, and everything came back fine. I am not going to lie, the biopsy was unpleasent, but not crazy painful. Take some tylenol before you go, and keep some in your purse for after and you should be ok.

I will keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing and you get great news.

I have not had a normal pap in about 4 or 5 years now. They just have been watching and waiting to see. I go in every 4-5 months now and I get the colposcopy done about every 8-9 months. Now that I am pregnant there is nothing that can be done till 3 months after where then again I start all over with everything being monitored. Sometimes though abnormals can come back for minor things that were even done wrong on collection so I usually would not worry with just one. I guess I still dont worry after all these years I just say what happens will happen. I would say if you are more comfortable switch definately but I would not worry right away. The colposcopy hurts a little bit more but nothing awful. Its manageable and not so bad. Good luck. Keep us updated!!!

I think you have a right to be pissed. I have never had an abnormal pap but have some friends and co workers who have and everything turned out fine but agree better safe than sorry. Hope all goes well. Please keep us updated.

Personally? I would change docs and have another pap done. I wouldn't get the biopsy done until abnormal pap #2.

I worked for an OB for years back in the 90s...interestingly enough...I worked for the OB that delivered 3 of my babies...some people thought that was a little awkward..I was okay with it...I guess I was able to separate doc/patient versus doc/employee relationships okay...and it was fab to work in the office with him cuz I got lots of extra percs like ultrasounds and such....anyway...I had one abnormal Pap with him...and he had me come in for a repeat Pap and it came back perfect...he said sometimes it can have to do with the time that you are in your cycle, whether they actually get a completely clean biopsy, blood in the biopsy can cause it to be abnormal.

Now...on the fact that they did this in June and are just now telling you...COMPLETELY unacceptable and I would either strongly voice my opinion on this or simply switch doctors...might be easier to go have a second biopsy and colposcopy with your current doc due to timing as you might have to wait a long time to get into a new doc...but that is simply your call.  Definitely not something I would let go either way.

I wish you luck...and pray that everything is A-O-Kay...I'm betting that you are just fine....but is definitely better safe than sorry!  Good luck and keep us posted with what you decide to do :)

Hugs to you and yours and still praying for your BFP sooooooooooooooooon!
