Kids not allowed to visit hospital

The hospital I delivered at said NO children under the age of 16 unless they were the siblings to the newborn. However, they don't enforce it - my 4 year old nephew came and they didn't give us a problem. Drew's 10 year old big sister would have been DEVASTED if she couldn't come see him.

 I didn't  know a hospital could restrict anybody other than for violence, especially based on age.  What about old folks?  They are also a vulnerable population.

My 2 year old son wasn't able to visit when I had the baby but that was because he was in the nicu.
