35 Week Appointment

Hi Ladies--

Today I had my 35 week appointment with my OB. All's still well with both the baby and me. My total gain is 24 lbs. now and my vitals are still fine. BP =110/70, urine negative, etc. Baby is estimated to be 5lbs, 1 oz....but last week he was 4 oz. heavier than that. I'm assuming that the two different techs on two different machines accounts for the difference. Next week I'll have the group B strep test.

Afterward, I headed to the hospital for my weekly non-stress test...it took almost 3 hours! For the entire first hour, baby boy was so hyper that the nurse couldn't get a decent trace on him. Seriously, the printout out was all these random, disconnected scratches. It should have looked like a normal fetal heartbeat trace. The nurse was beside herself with disbelief that the baby was so hyper. After conferring with my OB, I was sent to go eat lunch and come back 45 minutes later. So, I did...got some soup in the cafeteria and phone my husband to jokingly say "This is all your fault." (Well documented my husband was hyper as a child.) After going for a brisk walk (hoping to lull the little guy to sleep), I went back, we started from scratch and within about 10 minutes, they got a good trace. So, the nurse stayed with me for the entire 20 minutes with her hand holding the device to my stomach. She was refusing her pages and calls just so she could keep the monitoring going.

I'm exhausted from my appointments and other tasks from today. It feels as if I could sleep for 3 days straight!

Tomorrow morning my husband and I will go pick up my new car...I'm so tired that I can't even grasp the idea right now. Perhaps tomorrow the excitement will set in. Next Tuesday my town's "Safety Officer" will install the baby's car seat/base. Today the cord blood kit arrived and is packed with our hospital bags. It's a big sigh of relief now that I have that in my posession.

While attending a baby basics class this week, we met a peditrician from our town that we really liked. So, I'll be meeting with him on 10/19. What's cool besides that fact that he has 20 plus years of experience is that he seems to have a great sense of humor and is laid back too. His office, which is 1.5 miles from my home) has walk-in hours 4 mornings a week and separate sick/well waiting areas. Next to his practice is an independent pharmacy and a coffee shop...how convenient is that? (Paula envisions sanity in the form of a latte while awaiting the filling of a sick child's prescription.)

On some levels, it seems like all the baby stuff is coming together. But, on others....not so much! By the end of the weekend, the nursery will be primed and painted and the nursery furniture will be here. Perhaps not assembled and in the nursery, but it will be at our house.

My good friend and college roommate who was due on Monday still hasn't had her baby. Her baby girl was estimated to be 9 lbs, 1 oz. last week and my friend is a petite woman who has been told her narrow pelvis may prevent a vaginal birth. I'm so excited that her baby is almost her but I'm anxious for my friend at the same time.

Glad you had a good appointment and things are going well.

As far the estimated weight of the baby - I wouldn't be too concerned with that. The Saturday before Drew was born he was estimated to weigh 8lbs 10oz - he was born 7lbs 5oz. There are so many variables - be sure to bring a few different outfits. We brought a NB outfit and a 0-3 month (thinking he was going to be almost 9lbs.) - he wore the NB outfit home and SWAM it in.

Glad things are going well and everything is falling into place!!  I know the exhaustion...try and rest.  As for your friend...yeah, I had the SAME problem.  Non-existant hips and a 10.5 lb baby moose.  C-SECTION!

Good luck in getting everything else ready for your little one!  I have some hyper girls in here too and am wondering how THAT NST is going to go on Tuesday - LOL.
