Weight Gain

I'm about 10 weeks along and haven't gained a pound.  In fact, I've lost about 3 pounds.  I'm kind of concerned about this.  I eat like a horse but sensibly - Not a lot of junk foods.

Did anyone else experience this?  how worried should I be? on average, how much weight did anybody gain?

I plan to talk to the Dr. on my next visit about this but just wanted some other input to put my mind at ease.

Thanks

Angel

I am almost 8 weeks and down 4 pounds. OB told me that I might loose the first trimester but I should start gaining after that.

It seems to be fairly common to not gain much (or even lose) in the first trimester.  I am almost 13 weeks along and have FINALLY gained a pound, but I was getting really worried as well.  My doctor wants me to go to a nutritionist to figure out ways to add calories in, though, because he is concerned with my intake.  I eat every two hours or so and still only manage around 1200 calories, so that's not gonna cut it for me and the baby.

Until you talk with your doctor, just continue to try and eat healthy and as often as you can.  Also, make sure you're increasing your carbs because ketosis is very bad for the baby.

Thanks Tricia. I also try to eat about every two-three hours but sometimes I just can't...its almost too much food. I see my OB in about two weeks so I'll talk to her again about the weight issue.

Thanks again!

Well..it seems to vary greatly.  I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point as long as you are eating well.  I have heard that it is common to lose weight in the first trimester, especially if you are experiencing alot of nausea and vomiting.  However, that has not been my experience.  I have not vomited once...thank God!  I am 16 weeks now and vary between a 6 - 8 lb weight gain, depending on the day.

Definitely talk to your OB about it, but I am thinking that you are okay as long as you are eating and drinking well.

Take care....

I'm 12 weeks and I have lost 6lbs... so I was told to increase my intake... higher calorie foods and eat more... I eat all day long... no joke.

I lost a total of 16lbs my first trimester, gained 14lbs my entire pregnancy. It happens. The baby takes what he/she needs from you anyways - you're the one that will suffer, not the baby. You will be okay :-)

With my last pregnancy I only gained 8 lbs in 22 or so weeks.  I then went on to gain a total of 50 in that pregnancy and I got pregnant only 4 months post op.  You'll gain a few pounds, I'm sure.  With this current pregnancy (twins) I lost 6 lbs the first 10 weeks.
