4D Ultrasound
So I went in for my 20 week ultrasound last week where we found out we are having a boy. I was very excited to go in but, when I got there, the experience was SO dissapointing. The tech was so brusque (like "I do this all the time and just don't care"), andI did't get to see the screen at all except at the very end when she showed us the boy parts....I kept leaning to the side to try to get a glimpse until she snapped at me that I was compressing the shot. Finally we only got 1 pic and its terrible! You can barely make out that it's a face. I guess I should be glad that everything looked normal and we got to find out the gender but it was so frustrating to be there and not able to watch then to not even have a good pic or 2 out of it. Our first US at 11 weeks was so cool and the staff at my OB was awesome! This girl was so rude and short. It was just kind of heartbreaking. I mean, this is our first baby....the one we've waited and prayed for. It might be her job but it's a dream come true and a miracle for us! Is it too much to ask for a little kindness and consideration?
Anyway, I am now considering going in for a 4-d ultrasound. I hadn't intended to but I'v seen such amazing shots from friends and heard very good things about it. Is it selfish that I want to go in for another US? I can't find any evidence that its dangerous and I only want the one. IThey even give you a DVD of the whole thing and good photos and they are supposed to be very considerate and accomodating. I know it's not essential and I'll be paying about 200 bucks out of pocket but I really want a positive experience and its worth it for me. Have any of you done these? If so, would yu reccommend it?

I did the 3D, not the 4D and my insurance covered it. Sorry. It's done at my OBs office and my ultrasound tech was just like yours.
Since she doesn't give a flying fig about me, I don't give a flying fig about telling her what a snatch I think she is. LOL
If I had to pay out of pocket for it at another facility, I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.

Julie - You crack me up. I'm with you. Growing up in Oregon...I'd never be so rude to tell someone I thought they were a *****then I moved to NY and found out how liberating it is to tell them...just in case they didn't know.

I think you need to do what you feel you need to. I never did a 4 D or a 3 D Ultrasound. Just the norm. I did have a 2 D with my daughter but that was because they thought she had an issue. She was fine. Just know that you are going to see your little guy soon and he will be in your arms and that is a feeling no one can take away. I would call and complain about the tech though!
I would be putting a call in to her supervisor- and I would make a big deal about how she handled people. Was it at a hospital? Wherever it was, I would be sure to let my OB know about her lack of bedside manner and I would tell everyone I knew her name so they can request someone else. I would maybe even try to get them to offer another ultrasound at no cost- Sometimes they will. You can request someone else and have a better experience. I would make a fuss about it. I am like that, especially when pregnant. It takes a lot to make me mad, but once I am, get out of the way! If you want to do the 4-d, go ahead. I know a lot of people who have done it and really enjoyed the experience and the DVD. You'll probably waste $200 on stuff during the month anyway, at least that's how I see it. First see if you can get a little revenge. Good luck! And congrats on having a boy!

If I had such a bad experience like that at 20 weeks, I would also lean toward the 3D/4D. I called the place that does it around where I live and they said they cant do the 3D/4D until about 26 weeks. But if you wanna wait...I say go for it! You deserve to have the good pics.
I have lost 112lbs since my surgery in November of 2007. Ready for a baby now.
I agree with all of the above...
Take Julie's advice next time and tell someone when they're being a ***** What do you care what they think of you? Will you ever see them again?
I'd also call and complain to the place that did the u/s...see if they'd cough up another - with a different tech. It's not like you were asking her to diagnose anything...you just wanting to see your baby.
If you have the money, go for the 3D/4D. I don't live in the states, so have no idea if it's as easily available as it is here...but I know some of the malls here in Indonesia have places you can get them done right in the mall. They're dirt cheap here - about $20, tops. If money's a little tight...find something you and DH can give up for the month to make up for it...I don't know...something like if you have Starbucks 3x a week...a months worth of that would likely pay for a goodly porition of it.
The drs here also have the machine set up in their office so the person doing the u/s - usually the dr himself - has his monitor...and they have a 'television screen' hanging from the ceiling for you to see while you lay there exposed to the world with a wand up your wazoo. I can't believe that a third world country like Indonesia would have that and the U.S. wouldn't. You see everything the dr sees.
