How Does Your Baby Sleep ?

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Questions:  Do you put your baby under a blanket?  What does he wear to bed?  How warm do you keep it at night?   Does he sleep on  a "sleep wedge" ?  Does he sleep on his back, side or stomach?

Background:

Cooper has slept on a wedge with sides that hold him from rolling over since birth.  It says you can only use to 4 months - and he is kinda big on it.

I tried tucking in blanks under the bottom of the pack 'n' play and letting him sleep without  it and he fussed and fussed and didnn't sleep more than 3 hours.  So I gave in and put him back on the wedge.

The next night I put him in a "wearable blanket" over his regular sleeper and tried that -- no dice.  Not only did he not like sleeping without the wedge -- but he was still cold!  His hands were icey and so was his nose.

Ideas?  My husband keeps it at 65 degrees at night.....  I don't want Cooper to freeze !!

Also - do you think Cooper sleeping on the wedge has prevented him from learning to roll over?  He's 3.5 months old and doesn't roll over yet....  I keep hearing babies roll over for the first time at night or during nap time.... but he can't.

Thanks,

Cindy

(He just started napping in his crib -- he still sleeps in the pack 'n' play by my bed)

we used a positioner with Jordan but he was a tummy sleeper and we used blankets

then with Kaida the positioners were apparently a no no then so she just became a tummy sleeper and I used blankets.

my kids are all winter babies.  its cold.

oh you might just have to veto that 65 degrees to keep baby warm.

I got my "Your baby is 4 weeks old" email this morning and it talked about sleeping.

It said that a house should be kept at 65 degrees and that not to judge whether or not the baby is cold based on hands/feet/nose.  Instead, use their stomach.  If their stomach is hot, then remove a blanket, if its cold, then add one.

As for us, Alex sleeps swaddled still and on his back in a bassinet next to our bed.  During nap times, he sleeps on his tummy about half the time, so I'm really no help.

Great info about telling body tempature!  I am surprised I never googled that before... I thought my "hands/feet/nose" test was good.  LOL.

Thanks for sharing !!

We keep it at 68 degrees, it has been time for the heater the last few nights.  He starts out on his back, then rolls to his side.  We either dress him in a sleeping bag/ dress type of pj's, a long sleeve onsie and the halo bag thing or the long footie jammies.  He stays pretty warm.  I need to reverse the ceiling fan so it pushes the warm air down so I can keepit running since they say it helps with sids.

ETA, we dont use a blanket since he chews on them and trys to shove the whole thing in his mouth, lol.

Thank you!

Zander sleeps on his back when I lay him down, on his tummy when Daddy puts him to bed... But usually he automatically rolls to his back even after he's laid on his tummy... Seems to prefer to sleep that way... As far as blankets, he won't keep them on although sometimes I try to sneak one on him...

He is now sleeping in footed jammies now that its cold outside (he used to sleep in just a onesie cuz he's always a warm baby)... Gramma got him some fleece ones that are so nice & warm... Our bedroom is pretty cool all the time... He seems to be doing ok but like I said his body is always warm... I don't sleep well unless the room is on the cool side so I am sure my boy is the same way...

As far as Cooper, I would suggest having hubby turn the temp up for Cooper's sake at night... Maybe to 70ish... He'd probably be warmer & more comfy that way... He may also be more comfortable in his crib rather than the Pack N Play... The only time Zander sleeps in the Pack N Play now is when he goes to stay at Grammas or his Aunt Barb's house...

The wedge "could " be hindering his rolling... We never used a wedge as I was told over & over again "Back to Sleep" by the doctor, the hospital and even WIC...  I used to put Zander on the floor and let him learn to roll that way... He was rolling by the time he was Cooper's age I believe... But not ALL babies grow or do things the same way... Some are fast at everything while others do things in their own time... Does he roll from his tummy to his back at all? That's usually the one they do first....

Well anyhow, you've sure got a cutie pie there Cindy... He's growing so fast!!  Hope my .02 helped... I would definitely turn up the heat a bit though... Better to have him toasty warm than freezin' his hands & feet off....

I have eased off the wedge....and today Cooper *kinda* rolled over.  Very exciting !

(It was rolling from his tummy to his back -- he hasn't made it from back to tummy.)

I always appreciate your thoughts and advice !!  And I still love the name Zander and keep wondering how I can convince my husband to name our second Zander if he's a "he"  !!

Take Care,

Cindy
