Prescribed narcotics during pregnancy?
Obviously, now that im PG I can't take my migraine meds. My OB gave me Fiorcet first, but it didn't help, and now Demerol.
I've googled till I can't google any more.
Does any know if this is okay early 1st trimester? Have similar experience? Any suggestions?
TIA,
Cathie

www.safefetus.com lists drugs and classifies them for use in pregnancy. Search for meperidine which is the generic name for it. Hope this helps and good like with migraines.
right when I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I also found out I had Bronchitis. I had been sick with a cold for 2 weeks and it had developed into a really bad cough. I was coughing so much that I was gagging and so I finally went into the doctor. I had just found out I was pregnant too, so I told him that so he could adjust what medication he gave me. I'm pretty sure the cough medicine he gave me was a narcotic because I needed something strong to control the cough (so I could sleep at night). I asked my doc if the cough medicine was ok while pg and he said it was. And my baby was fine!
I'm not sure though about taking something on a regular basis, but I'm sure with some trying new medications, you will find something that works for you. Just call your doctor and tell him/her that the Demerol isn't working either. You shouldn't have to be in any pain because you don't want to be a nuisance to your doctor and tell them that this med didn't work either! GL!
I get severe migraines as well, but I'm too neurotic to take meds during pregnancy. It's a personal thing for me. Some days I want to crawl into bed and cry and hide because they are so bad, but it's impossible to do with twins. So I just suffer. I don't recommend this route as it's not for the faint of heart. Plus, unless you are as med crazy as me, why put yourself through that?
So talk to your Dr. and figure out a plan that will work for you.
I will say that after this child is born, it's med city for me because this is ridiculous already.
I am a migraine sufferer as well...and just because I got preggo, they didn't just magically go away. I took Darvocet, Fioricet, as well as Percocet on occasion when I needed it. This route is not for everyone, and I was very careful to only take it when I was desperate. My doc was okay with it. I say ask your doc and do what suits you best...there really is not one right answer for everyone. I hope that you are able to find a way to get through this time without being in too much pain!

Before I got my BFP (few days before) and the first 4 weeks of my pregnancy were filled with migraines. I took Vicoden (before I knew). I am so sorry you are going through this. My head was hurting so bad my nose was tingling. I can definitely understand. I wish you the best .

There are a number of preventatives that can be tried - elevil, neurontin, propranalol to name a few that might help, but they didn't help me. That doesn't mean they won't help you.

I have migraines, too. I used to take Zomig which was awesome but now I can't. I just pop a couple of useless tylenol, turn off all the lights, get a cold wash cloth, tell everyone in the house to keep super quiet, and go to bed. Last time I tried this, I woke up the next morning and my head still hurt but not as bad.
