I have been on Nuva Ring for a couple of months now and I am not sure I like it!  I am thinking of trying something else and as much as I don't want to back on the pill...I am willing to try it again as a last resort!  I know that they say the pill is less affective after WLS and to use 2 forms of BC...So I guess my question is for how long does that apply?  Is it forever? Or is it just that first year?  Will I be protected if I go back on it?  If not I will be pressing for an IUD instead!
TIA!!!

I had my Mirena IUD placed a few months after the birth of my son (he just turned 5) and just recently had it removed.

I loved it! I never worried about it's effectiveness - especially after WLS -  and really liked that I didn't have a period for 4 years!

I say go for the IUD and relieve yourself of the worries of the pill or using several types of BC.

I had the Mirena for 2 years and really liked it, but then I have had problems where I have had my period since August. Long story short, the IUD apparently 'fell out' and my Docs thing  I had a miscarriage. (Testing done the other day to confirm) It does say on the IUD info that it can fall out, but who would've thought?
Funny thing, we had decided to start TTC in January.
Anyway, just wanted to give you some food for thought.

I was on the pill after my surgery. WE used condoms for a bit post op (Dr reccomended 6 months - we hate them so it didn't last that long) but the BC pills did work for me (I have RNY). I am now 2 1/2+ years post op and pregnant.

Good luck!

My almost 2 year old is a product of Nuva Ring!!!  I LOVED it when I was on it but had NO idea how many women actually get pregnant using it (I want to add I did NOT use it to minupilate my periods - some women leave it in for 4 weeks and then replace with a new ring and avoid periods) I now have the Mirena and LOVE it!!!  I personally was too scared to try to trust the pill post op and after Nuva Ring didnt "protect" me I decided IUD was the way for me.

I ended up using the nuvaring after surgery becasue I has having issues with the pill. I was having cysts and break thru bleeding. I really liked the nuvaring with the exception of the vaginal dryness that it caused. But I preffered that over the bleeding all the time. I need to talk to my OB about BC after I deliever.
hugs,
Kim

I used just a pill...although I know not recommended...because I have pcos with ir and had tried to conceive for 5 years prior to surgery and never had an 'accidental pg' in my years prior to that being young and sometimes not so cautious when I was in a long term relationship. Also, after surgery my hubby had super low sperm counts...so I was pretty sure we wouldn't get pg without help...but used the pill for sure. Funny thing is that after this pg I am getting fixed and will be going on bc too...not for bc but for hormone levels with the pcos. Sucks being a woman...lol. Shari

Hi Sweetness....

I am sorry you do not like the Ring...that is my preference and it was convenient and worked for me (I did not manipulate my periods either)....sounds like everyone on here likes the Mirena....that may be a choice for me in the future too (not near though...lol).....

Hope you find what works and you like it.....

I loved having the Mirena IUD and plan on getting it after this baby is born.   I loved not having to worry about taking a pill (I take enough now post op!!), to worry about absorption post RNY, and using a backup method- plus it's safe to use when nursing a baby.   I know I'm a lot more fertile now that I've lost weight (got pg the first try) and want something that is for sure going to work.   Plus, the Mirena IUD made my periods very  light and most months I didn't even have one!  I didn't get PMS symptoms either and loved that.

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!
