Ugh
I have a wonderful almost 8 week old baby - he sleeps through the night (and I'm not talking 4 hours, I'm talking a straight 7-8,) he eats like a champ (6oz,) and is generally all around happy. However, we are having an issue. Every night between 8-10pm, he has this extreme screaming fest. He is constipated - he has troubles pooping most days (dr. says his butt hasn't learned how to relax yet) - so we end up having to give him a enema - which completely calms him down. Did anyone else have this problem? Literally it's the same time every night. I just want his butt to start working - the "rectal stimulation" that the doctor recommended just isn't cutting it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Shauna!
Your little guy is so very cute!! Love that smile...
My pediatrician suggested I try some Pedialyte to help with his BM's... Zander too was very constipated at that age and we were told to give him a mix of 1/2 and 1/2 (formula & pedialyte)... I just went out & bought the Wal Mart brand as it was cheaper... It worked like a charm for Z... I only gave it to him once a day or every other day if he didn't poo on his own... He outgrew it though eventually...
I hope things start going a little smoother for little Drew... I know its hard to watch them cry & there's nothing you can do to help... Hang in there Momma... It looks like you're doing a great job with him!!

I am sorry I cannot think of anything as my lovely almost 11 month old sometimes has just the opposite problem....last night he pooped right through his diaper, shorts. onto me and the couch....I was talking to my hubby and screamed.....I was thinking of Cindy's husband and Cooper.....Nathan got a nice litle bath after that, I got a shower and the couch got scrubbed really good.....
Would Mylicon help that at all? I hope it clears up soon for him....
Hugs,
Ann and Poopy Nathan

We figured out the problem! Every time we put Cooper in a Chicago Bear's outfit he poops right through it !
Guess he's not a Bear's fan ??
It rarely happens in other outfits - at least not to the extreme-up-the-back-into-the-hair poop like daddy had that day Cooper tasted it.
I was hoping it would end.... sorry to hear that Nathan still has it happening at 11 months old! *sigh*
Take Care,
Cindy

Yes, the pedialyte does wonders! My sister taught me this. My doctor told me it is the sucrose (sugar) in the pedialyte that works. I bought a box of the pedialyte pops. Each one of them are only 2 oz. Then you can open only 1 of them at a time and use it. You will get results within 6 hours - guaranteed! The trouble with the big bottles of the pedialyte, or even the 8 oz bottles is it says you have to use them with in like 24 or 48 hours of opening them so the rest goes to waste. So, even though the pops may be a little more, you aren't wasting any!
I would give my little man (he's 11 weeks now) the 2 oz of the pedialyte pop in a bottle if he hadn't gone in a day or day 1/2 or if I noticed he was straining. Seemed like he had a few of those episodes, and hasn't had them for a while now.
Hope this helps!

Oh he is sooo cute !!!
No advice on the pooping problem. Cooper is the opposite - liquid explosions out his diaper - UGH to that too!
Are you formula feeding? Breast feeding? Coop's formula has "prebiotics" in it that are supposed to make poops closer to breastfed baby poops -- more grainy and mustardy. (yum) Maybe you can add a probiotic for him? Don't know if that would help....
I can't believe he sleeps 7-8 hours. I am sooo jealous. Cooper slept 6 last night and I was thrilled with that -- and that's a rare occasion!
Take Care,
Cindy
