Any info on WLS having negative effect on getting preggers?
Hi ladies,
Just wondering if anyone has heard or experienced their WLS inhibiting getting pregnant.
With my first, I was 365 lbs and I got pregnant in 2 months.
I had RNY 15 months ago and I have lost 150 lbs (yea!!!)
Hubby and I are trying for our second, and I've just gotten my period after 4 months of trying.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND - I KNOW this is NOT a long time to be trying, and I know many of you have been trying for MUCH longer. I just wondered if there is anything about WLS to suggest it could be effecting conception.
Thanks!!!

I haven't heard of it inhibiting it but I've heard of it making you much more fertile. (My case) There have been some women here that have been trying for YEARS even before WLS. I think in the case of PCOS, it definitely helps the fertility situation. But if you have "unexplained" infertility, it may not help.

Tulasop,
I am on the opposite end. I believe that RNY has helped me tremendously getting preggo. I say that because I have PCOS. I hadnt had a period in over a year before surgery and then one month post op and every month since then I was finally "regular" for the first time in 14 years. I wish you the best and I know you will find support from many on here that are TTC. Good luck and tons of baby dust your way

From everything I've heard, WLS has the exact opposite effect.... we're super fertile. Hence why you see posts almost daily about new post ops (less than 6 months out) panicking because they're pregnant. I didn't ovulate and only cycled 3 times in all of 2008. Within a month of my surgery my cycle was coming monthly and obviously with ovulation lol.
Talk to your GYN about why you're not getting a period. I wasn't getting one because of my poly cystic ovaries but all of my symptoms were gone within a few months of surgery... even my hormone levels and insulin resistance. There's lots of things that can keep you from getting your period, many of them are an easy fix.
