Higher Rate of Twins after WLS?
I don't think there is a correlation. Twins are very strong on both mine and my boyfriends family (my grandmother was a twin, my great aunts were twins, and I have 2 sets of twin cousins - boyfriends mom was a twin, grandmother was a twin, and has 3 sets of twin cousins.) Everyone assumed that I was going to have twins as well - and low and behold, there was only one in there.
I don't think there have been (m)any studies on the topic yet. However, it could be that when people have WLS it often resolves a lot of fertility problems, and many become quite fertile. Its possible that, especially for women with PCOS who don't release eggs as frequently, perhaps their body goes into overdrive and releases more eggs than normal on cycles following WLS. I've been on this board for over 4 years, and there seems to be just slightly more twin pregnancies than other boards I'm on. More likely for you though is your genetics to kick in with the twins I'd bet!

I'm pregnant with twins and what I've read as to what can attribute to fraternal twins is a) genetics and b) hormonal fluctuations.
The genetics part only runs down the women's side, no matter how many twins a dad has on their side...his sperm doesn't make you ovulate any more than one egg...LOL.
The hormonal fluctuations occur from:
fertility drugs
advanced maternal age
younger moms (teenagers just hitting pubert)
just a fluke
Now, from what I'm guessing is that after WLS, our hormones fluctuate A LOT. We are releasing more estrogen, and what-knot and that can cause our ovulation to go whacky once in a while. Me, I think my age (34) and just a "fluke" happened with me. I was over 2 years out from surgery when I got pregnant with the twins. When I got pregnant 4 months post op, I only had a singleton. Ya just never know! :-) I don't have a single twin in my family.
