Hello girls-

Hope everyone is doing well out there... :)

I'm just looking for a little hope here.  So far I've been good at staying positive, but sometimes it gets hard...I've had two miscarriages so far in my TTC journey (one in Feb., One this Month) and I'm just wondering if any of you girls out there had this or something similar happen and have had a healthy pregnancy/baby after going through such a terrible time?  I know that it has happened for people, but it would just make me feel better to hear it from girls that have had RNY or Lap Band surgery...Thank you so much for your time and responses in advance!  Hope you're having an awesome night!

I don't really have n experience to give you...my problem was conception not carriage. But I do know that 1/3 NORMAL women miscarry in the first trimester.  The rest depends alot on you. Did you TTC before? How far along were you when the MC occurred? It may just be tha you got 2 non-sticky beans in a row and that the next will be fine. I do have friends that this has happened with and their pregnancies went perfectly after that. Basically, sometimes it's you and sometimes it's the fwetus. If it's the fetus, theres nothing to do but try again but if its you then there are tests and medications and options galore.  Good luck too you and hoping to see your name on the Baking list soon!

Most women will, yes.  I am unfortunately not one of those yet.  But, it has nothing to do with RNY.

You can get your doctor to do a loss panel to see if you have any blood clotting factors.  Additionally, some doctors will prescribe metformin (I started mine a few months back) for women who have repeated early loss.

Good luck.

The vast majority of women will go on to have a normal, healthy pregnancy.  Like Ann though, I'm one that hasn't...yet.  Still working on that one.  I did have a perfectly normal, healthy pregnancy 14 years ago...but now have had four mc in about 18 months.  This is my first month TTC since the last one in July.  That said...the drs 'majority rules' opinion re my mc's is that my  hormones are out of whack - not enough estrogen to build a thick enough uterine lining, and not enough progesterone to sustain a pregnancy...so I'm all drugged up trying to alleviate both those problems.  I also had all the blood work done to check for blood clotting disorders, and I do have 3 (or 4, depending on which dr you ask) mutations for blood clotting disorders, though I have never had a blood clot.  The drs also like to throw it out there that I am 41...just to remind me in case I forgot in my senile old age.  I am just telling you all this - all the 'reasons' they're chalking up my mc's to - so that you know that I am not the 'norm.'  Like Ann....none of my problems are related to the WLS (RNY).

Statistics - which I hate - will tell you that the chances of it happening again - a third time - are almost zilch, blah blah blah.  I'd say that if you can twist your drs arm, tell him/her that you want them to start doing tests NOW...because most of the time, they will say that they won't do anything until you've had three mc's.  Because I don't live in the U.S., I have a different medical situation, and my dr started having things tested after the 2nd one...which seems so much more reasonable to me.  At least you'll know from the blood tests if there's a blood clotting problem, a genetic/chromosome problem w/either you or your SO, or if you have anything like Lupus, which can cause pregnancy problems.

I have heard stories from a lot of women out there - I've known one personally myself years ago - who have had multiple (ie she had 5) mc's and went on to have a healthy baby.  It was so long ago, I cannot recall 100% what the drs found out the problem was with her, but I'm thinking it was something w/the luteal phase of her cycle not being long enough...it just took 5 mc for her drs to find that out.

Don't give up hope.  As I told one of my drs...I know there are no guarantees that anything I'm doing right now will get me a healthy, successful pregnancy...but it's a pretty good guarantee that I will not get a baby if I don't keep trying.

I'm sorry you have joined the group of us out here who have had multiple miscarriages...and I pray your dr can pinpoint a problem and fix it, so you don't have any more problems.

I dont have any advice, but I wanted you to know that I am in the same boat and hoping to eventually have a healthy pregnancy but had miscarriages in june and september of this year.

I don't know if you have yet, but i have been refered to a high risk obgyn to see if there is anything they can find that might cause this, like others have said they are going to do testing I am sure.

Look into getting testing done now, I was happy to know my dr knows we want a baby so shes going to send me for testing right away rather than waiting for 3 or 4 MC.

Hello again ladies...

Thank you for your responses.  I appreciate them all.  I'm sorry to know that there are so many of you out there going through the same thing.  The doctor I was going through looks at m/c as something that happens all the time and it's usually just a fluke so he won't be any help in testing.  I am currently looking for a new doctor because this one doesn't take me seriously and the last two experiences I have had in his office were rediculous.  I hope that you girls find the answers you need in order to have your beautiful, healthy babies with you SOON!  Take care.

I can't help ya here since I have had one and am thinking I am preggers now. (Gotta wait a little longer befor I can test. And then I have to go to my PCP since last time I couldn't get a BFP on a home test and my OB wouldn't send you for blood test until you get one at home.) I do know that my OB is going to monitor my hormones and do more this time around. Last time it's ok, we will see you at 8 weeks. Good luc****il then.

Good luck with TTC.

Hi sweetie,
I just had to respond to your post. I know exactly how you feel. I had a miscarriage in 8/07 at 14 weeks that devastated me. I became pregnant again and I had another in 4/08. I honestly thought that I would never be able to have a healthy baby. I decided then that no matter what I was not going to give up trying. I became pregnant again in 10/08 and I was terrified. I had blood work done and numbers were great, whew! Then I made it to 12 weeks! I remember how excited I was when I made it past the point of my first loss. I was thrilled when I felt her kick me for the first time 3 days before I found out she was a girl. I remember how happy I was to make it to the point of viability. I gave birth to my breech baby via c section on 7/7/09 and she will be 12 weeks on Tuesday. I am not going to say that my pregnancy was not terrifying because it was. I got myself a doppler and I used it several times a day at one point and every few days when she got very active. I thank God every day for giving me my miracle. Do not give up hope, because it can happen for you too!

Best wishes to you!
Julie

Thank you for your response!  Congrats on your healthy little girl!  I can't wait until I can one day say the same!  I know deep down that it happens for people, it just makes me feel better to hear you girls say that it's happened for you because you've had WLS.  I know in no way did I m/c because of WLS but when you're going through the could it have beens and people are questioning it, it plays with your head.  I honestly know that I was doing everything that I should have been right, and there was nothing more I could have done.  Thank you for giving me some hope!! :)
