Hi Girls!
Just wondering how much protein you were recommended to take in while pregnant?  Also, what have your surgeons said about protein shakes, bars, etc?  What is the main item you take in for protein?  Thanks for all your info in advance.  Any is appreciated!

I've been told to try for 80 if I can manage it. And my surgeon, OB, and NUT have no problem with bars and shakes and the like. In fact, my NUT highly reccommends a good protein fruit smoothie in the am with a scoop of benefiber to ward off constipation.  Lots of luck

My surgeon would like me to get in 90-100 grams pregnant or not.   He would also love if I drank protein shakes.

However, my OB and RE sing a different tune.  They both feel that I should not drink protein shakes because of all the chemicals in them.  So I don't drink them and that's fine by me because I think they are vile.

I don't know how many g's I'm supposed to be eating during my pregnancy (I eat a lot anyway) but my surgeon thinks the shakes are a no-no.  He doesn't want us "drinking" our calories.  But the bars he was fine with.  He wanted our tummies to get used to FOOD.  Thank God because I HATE protein drinks.  Except one from Starbucks.

My main source of protein comes from:

Breakfast - eggbeaters with one real egg, cheddar, and sometimes turkey ham and mushrooms on a low carb tortilla

*20 oz NF/SF latte.

Lunch - usually chicken, fish, or tofu.  I'm Korean, we make a mean tofu soup.  :-)

*Strawberry/Banana Vivano (protein smoothie with fiber from Starbucks - 18g) with just half a banana.  I just like these.  :-)

Dinner - anything goes.  Beans, beef, chicken, fish, you name it.

I actually was scolded by my nutritionist on Friday - she told me to bring in a food log (I had my 3 year follow up and she knows I am 4 mos pregnant) she said I am getting about 50 grams of protein a day and based on my height and weight I should be getting 125 grams of protein a day and no less than 100 grams of carbs a day (and 1500 calories).
