Stress = severe nausea... need help

I need some suggestions. The tiniest bit of stress causes nausea. Planning my DDs birthday party leads to nausea. Thinking about the $$ involved in said party leads to nausea which also leads to thinking about how in the hell we're going to afford this baby and even worse nausea. Thinking about work leads to nausea because I'm super behind due to all the time I've been out dealing with this frickin nausea. I take zofran and it helps for a little while but an hour or two later the nausea is back. Some days aren't bad but then there's times where I have "bad days" for two or three days in a row. I can't live in the bed!!

Anyone know of some stress management techniques? Mental self help or something? Stress has never caused me nausea before.

Other things cause nausea as well... like general morning sickness, smells, the usual. It's not super bad. I'm not vomiting (probably because I can't with the band), but sometimes I want to induce it so maybe the nausea will lessen. That's not an option though.

First I would scale down the party... no reason to let the $$ of that stress you out if you can scale something down.

I am a little over 5 weeks and I have to keep something in my stomach. I have what I call a nervous stomach - as soon as I get nervous my stomach gets incredibly upset. The wellbutrin helps some - but I am hoping that the therapist I am seeing tonight will help more.

Hope you feel better!

Oh gingerale and dry toast is great!

I find practicing mindfulness helps. One of the more basic practices involves simply closing your eyes, sitting up straight and paying attention to your breath as it enters your body and leaves. When your mind wanders, you bring it right back to the breath. Do this for five minutes. It may seem strange, but if you do it a couple of times you'll start to see that it helps. Also, once you get the hang of that, you can try to pay attention to your breathing, and then move to the parts of your body, starting with your head and moving down. You simply note any tension or pain or discomfort, accept it, and move on. I like this one because I always like to imagine my womb, and when pregnant, the baby growing inside. It's very powerful. Just a thought. It's something I have recently come across as a graduate student and so helpful! (Especially for financial stress, which I have all the time). Good luck!
