Hello everyone,
It's been a while... I have a question for you experienced mothers... Alaina is almost 6 months and my first child... Thursday she woke up screaming n crying at 2 am til about 9 am... since then she has hardly been eating... took her to the doc last night they said that she has a cold, and that the cold produced a rash that is all over her head face neck n shoulders... she also has and ear infection... (darn caycare she started about 3 weeks ago... she has never been this sick before)... Anyway I told her how her wet diapers have drasticly decreased... like yesterday she only had 2 one was when she woke up in the am and then not til after i picked her up from daycare (which was after 5)... she said well she has had 2 wet diapers she doesnt need iv fluid and that was it?! she is hardly drinking her bottle n whenshe does doesnt always keep it down... what should i do?! call the doc again? go to the ER?
Thanks a million!

Me, personally, I would go to the ER. A lot of times it is hard for pedi to diagnosis issues over the phone and majority of the time you are speaking with a nurse or someone else who is either trying to diagnose the issue themselves or relay the info to a dr. It can get all mixed up. I had to switch pedis because of this. I was blown off as a nervous nelly first time Mom but I knew something was not right Sure enough, my son had RSV. Better safe than sorry and let her get fully checked out, if nothing great, but this way you can be at ease and she can be on the mend sooner. Also, you can sometimes call a nurseline/hotline which I have found to be helpful and they can give advice as well if you are not able to get to the ER
Do you have an urgent care near by. We have a Children's Mercy Urgent Care and they are great. You could take her to urgent care or call your doctor back and tell them you want to be seen. Push fluids with her to get her to start wetting more. Most importantly you are Mom, you know when something is wrong. Trust you instincts.
