Suffering a cold
I know most of us go through it but I haven't had a cold in years it seems. I forgot how crummy you feel and now not being about to take anything......But about that, My doc ok's Sudafed, Actifed, and Benadryl. The stuff in Sudafed and actifed are cat C! Also robitussin DM which is Cat C. I think I am going to steer clear of anything like that and stick with the Vick's vaporub and tylenol if need be. Maybe a cough syrup if I have to (haven't gotten to that stage yet).
I did have a somewhat OT question. Hubby just had this cold (got through it in 3 days lucky him) and now it seems like he has thrush. A) everything on the net say you have to have been taking antibiotics or been immunocompramized to get it as an adult and B) could it just be cold sores or fever blisters? He doesn't seem to have much white in his mouth just a few blistery looking things on his inner bottom lip and one he says he can feel on his tongue (he's tongue tied so it's hard for me to see very far down his tongue). Have you had it before and what did it feel/look like? What were the cir****tances?

OH Amanda, head colds are miserable when you're pregnant! I had so many with my 1st PG. Lived on mushroom soup, salsa and spicy Chinese chicken. Vapo Rub and Vapo Bath, with a Vaporizer helped a lot too (sensing a theme here?).
I know what you mean about the cat C meds. If at all possible, I tried to steer clear of them. But then there are the times that you are so darn miserable that you need to be able to breathe long enough to sleep, ya know?
I hope you feel better soon!
And sorry, no advice/knowledge on the thrush issue.
Hugs,

Ugh!! I am so sorry you are feeling icky.
I got sick around 5-6 months and I refused to take the sudafed, etc etc because it was a cat C. I sucked on zinc lonzenges and vitamin C drops and tried to wait it out. I got over the cold, but landed a great ear infection --- that I ended up taking antibiotics for.
I had thrush after WLS -- (they pumped IV antibiotics into me) and it's a white thick coating..... the blisters sound like a virus. I had that once in college.... blisters / cold sore type things and on the back of my throat a big festering blister that bust open with pus, etc. (eeeewwww) Doc said it was a virus and just to wait it out.... gross though.
Hope you get better and he does too!

In my own opinion I think that there is too much hype about Cat C when only taken a few times. I mean I wouldnt take a Cat C drug on a daily basis the whole pregnancy but I have taken Tylenol cold, Sudafed, Excedrin Migraine and Robitussin DM on many occasions when pregnant with a cold or had a migraine. My children had no ill effects and are perfectly healthy. But again that's my own opinion and I would take them again. But if you like to keep it on the safe side the best would be Tylenol and Vicks like you said.I hope you feel better soon I know it really sucks to be sick and pregnant.
Thanks for the well wishes and advice. On the blisters thing I am really thinking it is just another part of this cold for him, it just doesn't look like thrush. As far as drug relief, this cold is weird, the bad times come in waves and then I am fine for a while. If it was all the time I'd probably go for some cat c drugs but I too think the hype must be too much over them since they are in the standard handout from the doc of what is ok to take if need be. God bless!
UGH...I am so sorry you are feeling like crap...ugh...I just got over a 3 week cold then had major tummy flu last week...I am not pg so I can't imagine all that with being pg....I am so sorry....
