An update and a few questions for the BFing moms...
So glad Matthew is home.
Awesome they let you stay to get nursing time.
that is fantastic he's a good nurser I am lucky that Lucas is too!
1. Lucas has a pacifier uses off and throughout the day
2. I definitely nurse 12 or more times as Lucas is into cluster feedings in the evenings, not sure about this one I nurse 10-20 minutes on each side every time, it would be hard to know since he just got home exactly long he eats I guess if you write down each time for a few days
3. playtex has breast pads with adhesive on them so they cant slip, I only leak on one side and if he really cries hard I leak too!
hope it helps a little!!
Beth
I am sooooo glad that your family is all together, Courtney and kudos to you for your dedication and perseverance in nursing. I never made it beyond 2 months with any of my kiddos so I'm not qualified to give you any useful advice :)

2- yeah 8-12 nursings a day, usually 1 1/2-3 hrs apart at first. Usually it's best to do 10-15 minutes on each side and not just do one side at each feeding. The older they get, the less time it'll take on each side. I got down to about 4 minutes on each side when my daughter was older and it was great, she sure knew how to empty the milk quick! You will be lop sided looking if you do one boob at each feeding too (one boob a lot bigger than the other). My sister in law would put a small safety pin on the side she ended on, just to know which one to start on during the next feeding.
3- It should get better with the letdown after a little while. But for now, with him being a newborn, you won't have to worry about being out in public for a while since you'll probably want to stay home for a bit. You might want to double up on nursing pads or just change your shirt if you leak!
I wish I could give you more advice, but breastfeeding with Lydia has been a challenge. But, I will say that I love the Johnson & Johnson breastpads at Walmart ... they're one of the least expensive ones and they don't slip areound for me. Also. I do gove Lyd a pacifier. Most bfing groups will say to wait at least three weeks, but you have to do what you have to do. Lyd will go from pacifier to breast to bottle ... she's easy.
Good luck, and take care!
Welcome home, Matthew!!
Have no advice on breastfeeding, but am super-glad (and jealous) it's going so well for you!
Take Care,
Cindy
