They have the same effectiveness rate. I'm having a c-section and will already be cut open...but I'm not doing either. Hubby is getting the snip snip before the baby is born. I have an issue with my ovaries and uterus just being in there and not being in use. There's a possibilty that I will have a hysterectomy later anyway because I have reoccuring fibroids. The other huge factor in my choice is because I keep reading these stories of women getting pregnant after ligation....freaks me out.

There is also a thing called uterine ablation(sp) where they basically burn the lining. It scars the lining and makes it impossible for the egg to implant.

a friend of mine had the uterin ablasion done. She doesn't have anymore periods and won't be able to concieve. They put you under, do a D&C and then burn the lining of your uterus. The pain is similar to bad menstrual cramps!

My Aunt had the ablation done last week - it was pretty much painless, they do a D&C then the ablation - you are out for the whole thing. Her sister had it done 5 years ago and no period since.

I am getting Essure, I don't want to go in to surgery and the effectiveness is the same so this is what I opted for. I am having this done on Tuesday I can let you know what I think before you make a decision if you would like. Good Luck!

Good Luck on Tuesday!   I had essure done almost 2 yrs ago and it was very simple and painless.   The x-ray 3 months later was harder than the actual essure.   The Dr gave me something to relax me and I actually slept through it.   I was up at  Best Buy shopping that night.

I love love love my essure!!   This Dec it'll be 2 yrs since I had it done.   So much easier than being cut open and actually in my opinion was even easier than having hubby have a vasectomy.   I had it done and was out shopping that same evening.   I had no pain whatsoever.  No time off work neither.  My coils are actually stainless steel though not copper...not sure if they've changed that part though.  We waited the 3 months and went in for the x-ray and everything was blocked exactly as planned.   I'm so glas I had it done!
