flu shots and breastfeeding?
I will be getting one next week, from what I understand by getting the shot you help to keep yourself from getting the Flu and boost babies chances of not getting it because you pass the antiboties on to them in your milk. My Ped said to do it and the Neonatologist strongly suggested it for us before baby even came home from special care, but I have not been able to get an appointment yet or I would have already had it.
All I know is what I have been told:
I am planning on nursing my baby when he is born in October. My doctor gave me the general flu shot today and recommends the swine flu shot when it is available mid to late October. My doctor said that you would not want to BF the baby while having the flu. I will have to check again on the swine flu vaccine, because my baby will be on.ly days old at that time. I hope this helps.
