OT: Formula Help
I put Vannah on Good Start Soy since birth however I do not think she is tolerating it well. And I have consulted the Ped but they are NOT helpful at all.
During feeding she gulps fast, more bottle ends up down the side of her face (like she does not like swallowing it), sounds all stuffy when eating (nothing in nose) and she tends to take an extended period of time (sometimes 2 hours) just to finish 3 ounces. She always seems unhappy and is extremely fussy. Ped put her on reflux meds but that does not help either. Anyone had this experience with a baby allergic to soy? I was going to try Similac Sensitive or Nutramigen. Anyone switch to these with positive results? At first I thought it was colic in the evening but they say that colic lasts 3 or more hours in a row more than 3 days a week. She does not have that she is just fussy all day/evening long.

My little one had a soy and milk protein allergy...and there is soy in EVERTHING! Even the Nutramigin has soy, it is just a different "make-up". (according to the pediatric-gastro). We had her on Nutramigen because there was NO WAY for me to take the milk and soy completely out of my diet and she reacted to it in my breast milk. She did much better on Nutramigin...so much happier!! She still spit up alot until around 7 months, but no tummy gurgles and diarrehia. The Nutramigin is expensive, but if you get a note from your Dr. some insurance companies help cover the difference in the cost. (Ours did) (Horizon Blue Cross). Even if it doesnt it is so worth it to make your baby feel better. Also I used the born free glass bottles until she was holding her own bottles and I just switched from the glass to the playtex drop ins and she is doing ok. Good luck with everything and blessings to you and baby!!
Another thought....
Has the ped tried a different reflux med? My son was on Zantac, but was still spitting really bad. She switched him to prevacid, and it is 80% better!
From what you are describing, especially the fussy after feedings, and the stuffy, it sounds like reflux.
Don't have any experience on the soy.

Drew can't do the soy based formulas. He was on Enfamil Lipil in the hospital and did fine on that, so that is what we used when we went home. We ran out and I had a sample can of Similac Soy - so we used that. It bound him up BAD and he was throwing it up. He was still having pooping issues so the doctor switched him to Enfamil Gentlease Lipil - and he does GREAT on it.
We have been through hell and back this last month! We have tried Similac Advanced (Horrible poop, she lost 8% body weight in 4 days!), Similac Sensitive (Projectile Linda Blair Vomiting), Similac Soy (Again Vomiting)......Now we are on Carnation Good Start Gentle (Organge Can) $11.99 a can here ........so far so good. No more spitting up, vomiting, etc...
Blaze does have a slight case of Ezcema as well as nasal congestion. Not sure if it goes hand in hand with a Milk protein Allergy or Not , we go back to the Doctor on Wednesday to check in again. But i think she is doing so much better. We will see what the Doctor says. His next step was the Similac Allementum? It is sooooo expensive $26 a can!..., but if it works well that is all that matters!
I hope somthing works for you all. Seems like trial and error this first month!

Well I am trying Similac Sensitive...I will continue to monitor the vomiting, hopefully there is not any. If this does not work I am going to try the Nutramigen. I self diagnosed my first daughter guess I will do this one as well. My husband is military so I use a base doctor, which most are not even doctors at all just corpsman and they no absolutely squat about anything let alone babies with problems. Grrrr
What flow nipple are you using? With it running out of the side of her mouth almost sounds like the nipple is too fast for her. But with it taking so long to eat I just don't know. I was told by my pedi that if you start with Similac then keep with those until you go through all options....Advanced, Soy, Sensitive, Alimentium then switch to another brand completely......if that makes sense. So since you started with Good Start...I personally would try another Good Start probably the Good Start Gentle. Also Zantac did nothing for Matthew. We then tried Prevacid which helped some but we ended up getting switched to Zegerid by our gi pedi. This medicine has worked WONDERS! Matthew never spits up anymore.
I hope you find something that works for your LO soon!

I wish I would have waited to get new formula until I read some of these posts because I would have tried Good Start Gentle. But I did start with Similac Sensitive, I will see how this works. I have tried so many different expensive bottles and nipples, I'm so exhausted with the fussiness I think I might go crazy, good thing I see MY doctor today. I was so set on Zantac because my DD #1 used that, I need to stop comparing them! Thank you for the reply.
