How much b12 do you take?
I struggled with my B12 from the day of surgery so I take 5000mcg sublingual every day. I was told that we can't absorb the ones that you swallow. I have also been on the shots and the nasal spray at several points in the last 2 1/2 years.
I take my B12 with all my other vites - was never told not to.
Hope it helps!

I was told by my surgeon last year to take B12 Sublingual and have not had a problem since. I take 1000mg a day. Hope this helps, I was also having problems with iron so I have been taking 650 mg a day for almost 2 years as well as what is in my prenatal vitamin. Iron levels are fine for now. I am actually doing well with my blood levels right now. Calcium too, but it might be cheaper for us to by the cow as I go through a ton of milk (mix my protein with it as can't stand water with it), cheese, yogurt, icecream (not as frequent as I almost always dump from it). My nut at Barix was suprised that I didn't need a calcium supplement, but apparently I am doing something right. I also take a load of Vit C as I am a School bus driver and a daycare provider and I hate colds, so I load up on the C it also helps break the iron down for better absorbtion (sp). I get my B12 from either Cost****anada) or a nutrition/health store. Up here I can get them in 1000's or 5000's but so far 1000's are doing the job for me.
My surgeon stresses that most rny patients cannot absorb B12 enough either sublingually or orally. He quotes something about the enzyme needed to absorb it gets missed in the "Y" part of the surgery. I take b12 shots which are easy and painless if you do them in your stomach... I'm on 1000 mcg twice a month... and it costs me $12 for 10 doses.
Hope that helps

I have seen different surgeons order it different ways. My surgeon orders it subq (tummy or fatty part of arm) and a friend's surgeon orders it IM (in the muscle).

My surgeon said once that it was an intramuscular injection but my PCP said it didn't have to be. I've been doing it in my apron flab like you do with insulin so it doesn't hurt and my levels look great so my advice is try it and watch your levels. Maybe it's different for each person's body.
