Thoughts on Flu/H1N1 Shots for our kids....
Hey girl!
Good topic and interesting responses. I think, given the lack of credible scientific studies, it comes down to personal preference and your own comfort level.
I have always gotten the flu shot when pregnant. I have never had any problems. I will not be getting it this year (as I'm not pregnant LOL)
I am undecided about the flu shot for my 8-yr old. He was recently dxd with asthma and has had pneumonia 3 times in his life so far. Plus, being in school puts him at higher risk.
I will not be getting the flu shot for Emma (4 yrs old) or Everett (4.5 mos, but 6 mos at the time vaccines are released). They are both home with me and we are quite diligent about hand-washing and personal space.
None of my children, nor myself, will be getting the H1N1 shot. Too new to the market and NO data to support benefits or risks either way.
Our pediatrician is almost militant that all 3 kids should have both vaccines. I do not let this sway me. I rely on personal research and my own instincts. I also opted to follow a different vaccination schedule for Everett (delaying some and changing the combination of what is administered when). Again, this is based on my own research.
Good luck with whatever you decide and hugs!
