Thoughts on Flu/H1N1 Shots for our kids....

While there is  a lot of controversy going on about flu shots and the H1N1 shots I am curious to know what your philosophy is on the shots for kids....

Right now, I am planning to get them for Nathan....

Also, any information you received from your daycare about prevention/protocol?

We are just planning on Aethyn getting he normal shots!  We plan to refuse both the regular flu shot and H1N1!    DH is against the flu vaccinations!  He has NEVER had one, and has NEVER had the flu! (Lucky him!)   I have had them several times (every year until I met him) and have been sick every time!  As for the H1N1...he kind of has the same take on it...and the fact that they aren't sure of the effects for the future.  So we plan to hold off...but part of that decision is also the fact that Aethyn doesn't go to daycare...I stay home with him!  We thought about putting him in daycare so I could go back to school, but we have decided to hold off on that for a little while. 
Sorry I don't have any advice for you on the daycare prevention/protocol!

How you doing???? My mom has been here the last few weeks and we were getting major projects done around the house...she is amazing...so I was popping in and out of here....hope you are doing well!

Thanks for the info on your view of the shots....I am struggling more with the H1N1 but have been pretty sold on the flu shot...plus I have a lot of medical professionals in my immediate family....:) you know what I mean? :) Nathan got diagnosed with asthma earlier this month so I need to weigh that factor in along with going to daycare full time....ugh....what hard crappy decisions.....

i just dont think that there is enough hard core human research on it.... not to mention research on infants/preggos....

I am very undecided for the boys.  Unfortunately, they are in daycare, AND both of their parents are teachers.  I plan to keep good hand washing as a must all season for sure, but I just can't wrap my head around such a new shot for the boys.  I will get the regular flu one, and likely the boys will too, but right now I'm leaning on getting the swine flu one for me and Tina only (if she wants) but not the boys...  I'm open to ideas to the contrary though if you've got them, shoot!

Thanks for your input Donna....I am torn on the H1N1 too since it is so new....likely a for on the flu shot...Nathan has asthma and full time daycare.....do not want to risk it....am trying to learn more and more on H1N1 though....ugh....decisions...

BTW, I did not know you were a teacher....what grade or area?

I teach first grade and Tina teaches science to K-6.  I'm also asking lots of friends but more and more I'm thinking flu shot only for the kids.  Its a terrible decision to have to make!
